Does anyone know of any really good tailors/seamstress’s in the Birmingham area.
I am getting married in Oct and as well as some ready made suits I want some some suits made from scratch (loose material).
I have always had such a lousy time with tailors - cept in Pakistan where they seem to understand exactly how to sew clothes to accentuate and flatter as opposed to what I have experienced here where even with detailed instructions they still seem to do as they please and have no idea how to sew clothes for women with curves (bust, hips etc)
I would've thought that in birmingham you'd have your pick from all the darzis available there, best thing to do is really to go by word of mouth and give them one suit to see if they're up to your standard.
A lot of the really good tailors are affiliated to the various boutiques and the owners tend to guard their contact details unless your buying suits or ordering stuff from their shops they tend not to be very forthcoming with info.
I just want a tailor that is reliable and can make me a few pairs of decent shalwar kameez - I have checked out this lady on facebook that does some awesome suits - too bad she is in the states, as lovely as her outfits are I am bit hesitant to place an order without actually seeing the work in person.
Hi ariana, i've only ever had one suit sewn from a tailor here in Brum as my mum visits Pakistan quite frequently and gets me clothes from over there. I had my suit sewn by Sohail tailors on the alum rock rd and to be fair he did a really good job, it was a simple suit (band wala coller and straight legged shalwaar) and to be honest i've got no idea what he'd be like with anything more fancy, he had lots of designs in the shop to choose from and more importantly he made the suit on the day that he had promised which was quite important as i didnt fancy making countless trips to the "ROCK" to pick it up.
The only darzis that I can recommend are in southall so won't be of any use to you unless you fancy making a journey to collect your clothes. I've only ever bought ready made suits or fabrics in birmingham - still can't believe how much cheaper everything there is compared to down south.

I don't even want to begin thinking about how much my wedding outfit is going to be. We are having a small, intimate wedding, not many people at all, however I still have to dress up as a bride so I guess lengha shopping time will be a real eye opener. I am going to stick to the shops in the Midlands as having seen some of the prices of even the most simple outfits down south is enough send my stress levels through the roof.:)
