**Hi,

i’ve always noticed that a vast majority of urdu speaking people, both native and non-natives, mispronounce anarray of urdu words…some words are invariably mispronounced even by urdu-daans…perfect examples of that is: shaher and other similar sounding words like maher, zaher, qaher etc. the correct pronunciation would be shahr, zehr, qahr, mehr [with NO zabar sound before RE].

now, what you have to do in this thread is to identify other such words that are mispronounced by the masses OR if you ain’t sure of the correct pronunciation of certain words you may ask here.****

giving you one more example:

nishaat -----> nashaat

subah -> subh

baKht ko baKhat [with zabar before letter TE] bhi ek lafz hai jo aam taur par Ghalat bolaa jaataa hai aur aise hii ham-aawaaz/ham wazan dusre alfaaz bhii log Ghalat bolte haiN jaise saKht to saKhat, waqt ko waqat, taKht ko taKhat aur qabl as qabal

lol...yeh to us zamaane kii post hai jab maiN "rangeen" huaa kartaa thaa aur chahaar soo haryaali hii haryaali aur neelaa neelaa aasmaan [font colors that i used] huaa kartaa thaa...

...ab to 'saadgii' iKhtitaar kar li hai lihaaza:

dars e parvaaz hai jo rang bhi tasveer meN hai :)

aap ki ye post padh kar mujhe Ateeqa Odho yaad aa gai hai..... jab se tum se bichRe hain , hum ne rung pehna choR diya hai (Zikr hai kai saal ka)
