I’ve always noticed that the tagging feature isnt really used by GS bloggers. most tags lead to gizzy. that being the case why not go for automated tagging, which is quite reasonable results-wise, and would give a nice way to link different blogs together.
one thing i feel that lacks GS blogs is a coherent narrative of the group… cross postings and so on.
there probably are solutions within vBulletin, but one pretty respectable organization that does provide free tagging for commercial use (for upto 30000 calls a day) is here. I’m thinking of using my blog as a guinea pig at any rate.
ya .. at the end of the day, we may have to introduce auto tag and let people pick on the topics ... the problem that i have figured out is that people dont necessarily like the dual navigation mechanisms. Otherwise I am a big fan of tags. we used to have them even on the thread levels. I will put this on to the stack to wonder more. maybe after the 4.0 release.
the thread ones werent very good.. when people get to choose what the tags are they’re not really serious categorization, atleast on GS. it was things like “Saleem Sucks” or “India rulezzz” etc. The auto tags might just do entity recognition.. pick out things like Karachi or war but thats pretty useful. Keep the people out of it they dont deserve it
