Tackling teror — Where is the pre-poll urgency?

The sense of urgency to take on militants head-on — the hallmark of election campaign — does not seem alive anymore. Though Nawaz Sharif took oath of prime minister after a long delay of 25 days, he had actually assumed the charge from the very night of elections. And now around 40 days in office, the urgency to tackle militancy seems to have subsided considerably. Sharif had a visit to the ISI headquarters recently, but he does not seem to be exploring other channels (Track-2) to show his intentions of resolving the crisis asap. It is understood that the ISI has neither been able to destroy the enemy by sneaking into its ranks, nor has it been able to come up with a workable plan to put the TTP on the back foot. Relying on the ISI for this purpose will be a strategical hara-kiri.

Government’s seriousness and preparedness could be gauged from the fact that it had to delay the APC for want of incomplete homework. Resolving the security issue is as important as solving the energy crisis. Unless the genie of terror is put back into its bottle, the country cannot move any inch on economic front. The issue therefore needs to be taken as seriously as the energy crisis, if not doubly.

PMLN has no anti terror policy. The same goes for other policies too.

This is what happens when governments are formed under certain mutual agreements with the real power holders. PPP has suffered on this account. If PML(N) keeps this status quo, its outcome will not be different than PPP.
