Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

Re: Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

  • I really dont like it when brides have those dots design above their eyebrows...its it a hindu thing?

  • a messy hairdo where strands of hair are sticking out (use hairspray, gel, even oil if u have too! just keep ur hair in place woman)

  • or if they do decide to let their hair down to one side...having long rapunzel type hair and tight curls cascading over her chest...urgh

  • have practically all the girls who are attending the wedding to "walk down" with the bride, behind the bride, or in front of the bride...sit down pple! I didnt come to see u!

  • having such huge gaala that their cleavage is showing, especially in pics...urgh...save it for the bedroom.

  • wearing coloured contacts...that is just wrong.

  • everyone all colour coordinated with the bride....its been over done..bas bhi khar

  • eyeshadow that is not blended....looks mother scary

  • wearing every single set your mother and MIL gave you...seriously? are u having an auction?

I’m not opposed to all gold sandals…some look very nice with South Asian bridal wear. Unfortunately, a lot of the ones you see on Desi brides look pretty cheap and tacky.

I think I ruffled some feathers…Sweet Little Hunnie’s wedding must have featured too many items from my list :snooty:

I don’t have “Indian issues.” I think Indian sarees can be nice. I like Lucknowi Chikan suits in the summer much more than I like Pakistani lawn. The kundan jewelry there is better too. None of that changes the fact that I find their wedding attire to be tacky beyond belief. The embroidery is usually of lower quality than what we see in Pakistan (something that Ritu Kumar, one of India’s premier designers has said in the past as well), and the entire outfit is usually covered in gaudy, over the top designs…often on cheap polyester and nylon fabrics instead os silk. Also, bare midriffs seldom make for tasteful wedding attire.

As for sherwanis, the same embroidery issues apply. These are the first two sherwanis that popped up at an online Indian clothing store…they’re not cheap (~$600), but they’re plenty gaudy. Also, notice the turban that looks so fake you’d think it was molded from plastic.

It looks silly and poseurish, and it reflects upon a latent inferiority complex. It just makes you look desperate to ape western customs…even the one’s you technically can’t because of religion. By the way, we already have something to wish the bride and groom “health, wealth, and happiness”…it’s the dua after the Nikkah.

LOL.

It sounds like the nicest restaurants you’ve ever been to are “Shagufta’s Kabab House and Indo-Pak Buffet” and the Olive Garden. They don’t fold napinks into the water glasses at fine dining establishments. Perhaps you should go to a restaurant outside of Jackson Heights sometime.

It’s possible to be color coordinated without having an actual “theme.” Themes are okay if you’re throwing a birthday party. They just look absurd when its a wedding.

I was referring more to the piles of rose petals people dump on the tables as part of their centerpieces, or all over the stage/aisle.

I’ve seen it done, unfortunately. It looks very undignified and boorish.

Nose rings in general aren’t cute. The small hoops are just more reminiscent of livestock…even on Amisha Patel.

Re: Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

To add to my earlier list:
Baraats dancing down the street.

Grooms riding in on horses...or even worse, elephants.

Brides entering or departing in palkis.

lol ladies, wow to the pictures. I agree with all of the things you ladies have said. Over doing the gold, wearing a million rings (the girl ends up looking like a pimp), the fake crying oh that is the WORST! I went to a wedding and the girl was fake crying LOUDLY!! people started asking what is that noise? lol
tiaras are a no no.

Regarding the french nails it just depends on the person. Does anyone have pictures of brides who did not do french nails instead they did a different color that looked pretty?

^ wow...so much hate.

Definitely a hindu thing…and sometimes a sikh thing. It looks horrid. I have been to alot of Indian weddings and never once have I seen it look anything less than tacky.

Ah yes - the “I am trying to look sexy but am terribly failing look”. I think its also kinda tacky when the bride has a bunch of tight curled strands of hair coming down the sides of her face. Or even like the one curled piece on the side. It reminds me of the HS Prom look… circa 1990’s…

Its annoying but I wouldnt call it tacky. It just takes away from the brides outfit and jewelry. I think its a better look for a Mehndi.

Yea and we can’t even see the bride when she walks in!! I also think its tacky when all the guests stand up to get a good look of what is going on when the bride and/or groom enters. Its like calm down… this is not your one and only chance to see them. They are not celebrities and you are not papparazzi. The guests all getting up and vying to get a better spot to get a look and take a pic leaves shorties like me in the dust … unable to view anything. :naraz:

Very tacky… ew… how can you show those pics to your parents?? And then later your kids??? Doesn’t really set a good example…

I like wearing colored contacts for the hell of it on a day to day basis. It is a temporary look… which is why I find it is tacky to wear on your wedding because those pics and videos last forever and are usually flaunted. You dont want your kids asking you why your eye color has changed. Nor do u want to look back and regret not looking more natural or be like “what was i thinking?!” :smack:

Hm…dunno how I feel about this yet.

Yup

No - they are a walking gold shop… and proud of i!

Re: Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

he he punjabi rose!

but about the guests standing when the bride comes...i think they do it as a sign of respect...i admit, i do it..but not to block pple's way so i coudl get a better look. i just do it to make the bride feel special and its her day. its nice if everyone stands up...to be its just more honorable. and i especially LOVE when the groom stands up..it irks me when he's still sitting there and the bride comes up to him and doenst bother moving over or helping her out....grrrr....

i have a pic of me walking down the aisle (but you cant see me in the pic), but of the guests standing and looking at me with the biggest smile on their faces...its on my favourite pics!

The popular "Soft Cross" ones are really, very nice, but yes: they definitely weigh your own lashes down and make you look like you've had 3 Qauludes and a beer. I'm also not crazy about the thick band that holds the lashes together (requiring massive amounts of eyeliner to hide), but as I can't wear proper mascara (sensitive eyes), I'm left with little choice.

God: the fans, the fans! Those things that look like they create a gentle breeze with every wink. I still can't fathom why any bride would wish to look like a burlesque dancer in the last days of the Weimarr Republic. tears out hair

marry me?

I think I did buy the soft cross ones. It's a nice lash look wise. The band is indeed thick and inflexible. The ones I ended up going with had a very fine band that I could follow my eyeshape as I wanted.

I call it the kabuki dancer look.

Stoppit: I love you more than fish love chips, but this kind of outspoken behavior will only get you publicly stoned or shot; you must live so that you can tell your children, and your children's children (which you might already have, if you're a chav) of what happened here. ;-)

I've already been burned and it seemed that I quite enjoyed it and thus, back for more ;)

Oh will you stoppit.

It depends: are you a doctor, or an engineer?

--

Yes, they're notoriously tricky to apply right. I'd likely apply my own slap if I were getting married, but I'd still head to the nearest Shu Uemura counter to have the lashes applied.

Re: Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

I am soon-to-be-graduated-with-PhD engineer.

And I did me own slap on me wedding.

Seems like I'm made for you!

I can't believe I forgot to put that one in my list! I agree...it looks so awful.

It was a link to another forum =)

And feel free to bring to our attention if you see other links not being removed, even if they are by one of the mods. As mentioned before, you're better off taking this up with admins since they make the rules, not us, so it's quite useless talking about it here.

Cheers.

Re: Tackiest thing you're ever seen a bride rock...

Sorry love, I clicked all the links; they were links to google search results.

Maybe Roxx can confirm since she's the one that posted them.

And why wouldn't I bring it up here, since you removed them, possibly in error?

Maybe we should just bypass the mods from now on and all go straight to admins then! Onward!
