Admittedly, I am late to the tablets party, but will be in the market to buy a nifty tablet for myself around Eid time.
I am a finance guy, not a techie, but love gadgets (and efficiency :D) so I want some advice on the following matchups:
Apple Ipad 2 vs Blackberry Playbook vs Samsung Galaxy
A bit about me: I use Blackberry as my mobile, use Windows platform for computing. Money is not an issue, so please tell me about some practical features. Also, I am not against Apple products and this might be a good foray into that territory.
SO what do you guys use tablets for? I am thinking of reading books, emails, excel, surfing the web.
When i was on buying spree for touchpad.. in the morning..
Wife: Do you think we can resale this in other country?
Me: Of course not, they want an iPad
Wife: Some of them are not as wealthy though
Me: Yeah, not as wealthy, but still want an iPad
Wife: Not true, they cant afford it
Me: Yeah, they can’t afford it but they still want an iPad
Wife: How if they can’t afford it..
Me: I don’t know, but they still wan an iPad
I won’t go for a BlackBerry anything. Firstly, its just too archaic. They just don’t want to get on the bandwagon of the new era of smart phones. RIM is just too hung up on something that was working for them 10 years ago. They remind me of Palm a few years ago. Secondly their management seems to be jumping ship. I mean it will last for another couple of years but why bet on a limp horse.
iPad (as Firenze is adamant about) is a good bet. It does its job, it looks very nice and it has made a market where others (M$) couldn’t do anything. BUT, its too restrictive, being made by Apple. No external interface, except for the dock interface. No USB, no expansion card slot, etc. I do own one but it was sent down to me (honest).
Android tablets are coming up fast. Samsung Galaxy is very nice, Asus Transformer (Lucid Chaotic has one so he’d be able to give u first hand impressions) is what I’m rooting for. i almost got one (before I got the iPad). Asus is about to come out with a new version in a month or so with a faster processor and more memory. At that point my iPad hits Ebay. Money is about the same on mostly all of them. The 7" Galaxy is slightly cheaper @ $350 (but still very nice).
If you want one tomorrow go for the iPad (and jail break it the next day). If you can wait a few weeks let me know and we can buy the Transformer together

BB: I am afraid your right. Unfortunately I have been so used to BB due to work email connectivity, that I wanted to give them a fair shot. What the heck is going on with RIM??It’s like they want to kill off their product. Take me for example: I like the email functionality but I also would like to have some basic apps like weather, metro transit etc., and BBs apps are garbage/nonexistent. As soon as my IT dept gives the greenlight for a new mobile support, I’m getting rid of my BB mobile. A shame really.
Ipad: Agreed, I don’t like that restrictiveness etc. What about music? I suppose I would have to rely on iTunes exclusively? Also, stuff like MS Office, the versions would be different right (like the Mac). They do have a crazy amount of apps though.
Andriod: Nice, I’d like to hear more about these tablets.
