Tableeghi Iscariots

Source Tehkhana.net By Benighted

As I went through jang.com for news, I knew what depressed me, the religious parties, so called islamisation…nothing much has changed.. cant forget those days which now resonate so often in my head, those narrow ways full of dirty kids with their sand castles, much respected chars and niswaar walay pathan bhai on his chair guarding the construction, beyond which was a bigger picture, Adamjee College, we greeted pathan bhai, and ran for our zoology lab…Allah o akbar ! Cried my friend, mimicking the Jamiat and sliced off his frog trying to find thin arteries… after the much boring lab we were back in our restaurant, fuelled by the pushto tea and Dunhill, our debate made many ears go pointy…for we went on discussing Jamiat and its interest in us young spoiled men…“may be there’s a point, Jamiat needs spoiled men to use them to its benefit just like any other political party” Adnan entered the debate…“Jamiat is not a political party, its objectives are very much religious to which there are no standards and you can’t hold them accountable for any of their actions” I tried to hold the much segmented debate to its main path… “My parents have told me not to join any party religious, political or sexual or whatever and therefore I should strictly study and only study.” Imran surprised no one with his comment since he was a registered boring nerd. I didn’t want Ayaz to join Jamiat or any religious party and I was trying hard to convince him.

My father who hardly missed any namaz in his life, never encouraged me to offer prayers in the mosque, a simple explanation to this contradiction was that my father wasn’t any authority and his views can be seriously flawed, so I “secretly” started joining the open meetings and lectures, after a few days, it was all nauseating. even the dumbest as myself failed to see any religion in a few proceedings, recitations and references from some books written by ordinary people, the books weren’t to be given in case I wanted to take them home, for I was told they could only be read by someone nominated by the tableeghi group, that was a load of crap cause anyone can read the testaments and the Quran, and bless, the leader of the meeting couldn’t even read the simple Urdu, well kiss my shiny ass, I thought and moved on.

Next on my list, the turban, “the green turban represented the colour of the Prophet’s (PBUH) mausoleum” explained one of the local representative of the tableeghis, “but that’s not my question, what I am asking is the benefit of this turban?” well he didn’t like my questions for sure and warned me against the evil of extra knowledge, I was getting sick and my proposition was even sicker him “ok I will get the colour changed from green to blue, that means you will change your turban too?” all I wanted a simple Yes or No but of course “Mr. Beknighted you’re a blasphemic kid and it’s a sin to even think of things like that, you’re a spoiled kid of some God knows westernised parents, you’re on a way to hell and I don’t want accompany you by answering such questions.”

I wanted to tell him that the green colour only came under Turkish rule and it was always black but I didn’t. So why was this brotherhood of mad monks was growing at such increasing rate when everything they `d do didn’t make sense at all.

The answer is simple again, the people targeted are chosen very carefully, almost of them were business men, people who were self employed, for example the normal general and/or grocery shop owners.

Hey, that’s sounds familiar, yes you’re right, that’s the age old Jewish exercise, self employed people were chosen, cause they earn daily and they would be in a lot better position to contribute financially towards holy causes, even a Rupee from 500 shops a day poured towards beloved Islam run by their holy brothers in faith is straight Rs.500.

Members are encouraged to trade from the shops of their brothers in faith, so as to help other Muslims, so as to keep the money in the desired pool of people, as they would then freely contribute to their Islamic cause, and in turn they make profits from their newly found customers and brothers as a gift from Allah. Capitalism at its best, yet using anti American and anti Semitic slogans to raise money, for example: for the people of Afghanistan, well kiss my ass, for their version of Islam would never collect money for poor living within Pakistan or couldn’t explain why divorced women don’t get a fair second chance and mullah can always be polygamous.

“Tableegh is a profitable business; don’t be fooled by the different colour of their turbans or customised shalwar kameez, they all are same, they all stink you can smell the ignorance” I finally concluded.

After listening to me patiently for about 10 minutes Ayaz was now in a deep thought, it was almost 3 pm, we were still in the Pushto restaurant, he cleaned his lenses, ordered some food and finally joined me “but Jamiat is not a tableeghi group it’s a political group and we should support political groups or there will be another Gen Zia ul Haque and martial law” all I could have done was to prove Jamiat wasn’t at least a political party for clearly I knew nothing how Jamiat works. The food was good, so was the ending, Ayaz accepted Jamiat wasn’t political, and he didn’t join it.

A few years later I did join Jamiat and in their only strongest hold in Karachi back in 1999, the University of Karachi. From outside Jamiat seemed nothing but a political extension of organised religious ignorance and from inside it was exactly the same.

Jamiat (Islami Jamiat Talaba) along with APMSO (All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation) and PSA (Punjabi Students Association) were deeply involved in fake admissions and some forced admissions; teachers were slapped and kicked in a funeral of a student (Junaid) in front of the media and journalists by students of Jamiat, fake passes were held equally by Jamiat as by APMSO and PSA.

All of this can’t be right to any human mind let alone religious and when everyone is wrong, you would rather have a lesser evil, wouldn’t you? Jamiat did everything for Islam and under orders of Allah, on the other hand APMSO and PSA or any other political group did it for their political parties.

So in a typical case for us to study; Jamiat, APMSO and PSA fought to get to manage a picnic function, the APMSO and PSA want to do it because they want to take students to picnic and represent their respective parties to others by holding a good function and gain their support, a very fair practice. Jamiat on the other hand wants to organise an Islamic picnic? Now what in a hells bathroom is an Islamic picnic? I didn’t find a simple clause where Islam allowed co-ed education, let alone a whole picnic at beach.

So you marvel at these Islamists and the people who follow them, they chant Allah o akbar and attack PSA or APMSO as if any of them were non Muslims. As long as you support or work for Jamiat you had all the immunity to do all wrong for you’re blessed.

I did leave Jamiat and I did join APMSO and at a point when I offered my Jamiat counter part in charge to take back his claim for a tour programme and he knew APMSO was not applying to host the tour, Jamiat went on to conduct a totally non Islamic tour, so If Jamiat had any Islamic ideas they would have dropped the tour, they didn’t, and I wasn’t surprised.

This is our last supper with our twelve Islamic Iscariots; the only apostle is within us. Its time we should support a political culture and political parties, which ever we find is good enough, for you might charge a political leader for his wrong doings in a court but for someone who claims to work for Allah or an army general who enjoys every evil behind the curtains of patriotism, can’t be held accountable.
