**Grand congregation ends

Tablighi Ijtema seeks Allah’s blessings**

By Asim Hussain Jang Newspaper November 2005

LAHORE: The annual congregation of Tableeghi Jama’at at Raiwind concluded on Sunday afternoon with the final prayers calling upon Muslims to purge themselves of mundane pursuits and devote more time to ameliorate their infinite life in the world hereafter by total submission to Allah Almighty.

The participants estimated well over one million, most of them sobbing and crying during the concluding prayers, sought Almighty Allah’s forgiveness for their ignorance towards the eternal life and over indulgence in the trifles of this temporary world.

The prayers leader Maulana Zubairul Hasan urged the participants to first purge themselves of the sins and then reach out to more and more people to convey the message of Allah Almighty, which is obligatory upon the followers of the Holy Prophet (SAW). He prayed to Allah Almighty to bless the entire world with His final message so that the entire mankind could succeed in the eternal life.

He urged upon the participants to inculcate among themselves a strong belief that all praise and powers is for Allah Almighty without Whose will nobody could succeed, be humble to fellow human beings, be kind to all particularly with the relatives and neighbours and lead a simple life following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (SAW). In this way their lives would become successful, he said.

Without mentioning the Oct 8 earthquake, he reminded the gathering sins attracted the wrath of Allah Almighty manifested in the forms of disasters from heavens, urging them to seek intense forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

During four days of the congregation over a dozen Ulema from Pakistan, India, UK and other countries delivered sermons. Thousands of such teams were formed as the people volunteered themselves to travel to remote places to spread the message of Allah Almighty.

The teams have stayed back after the congregation concluded to get necessary instructions and itinerary from the elders. They will start leaving for their assigned destinations on Monday.

Ulema who addressed the congregation included Jama’at Amir Maulana Abdul Wahab, Maulana Zubair, Raiwind Markiz Amir Maulana Khurshid, Maulana Jamshed Ahmad, Maulana Muhammad Ahmad, Maulana Ahmad Lat, Maulana Tariq Jameel and Maulana Muhammad Saad, grandson of Tableeghi Jama’at founder Maulana Muhammad Ilyas who spoke for the first time.

A large number of foreign guests and dignitaries also attended the gathering for whom special arrangements had been made and interpreters provided to render the Urdu sermons of the Ulema into their respective languages.

**Among the Pakistani dignitaries **from all walks of life who attended the gathering included leader of opposition **Maulana Fazlur Rehman **who accompanied **Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool **in the helicopter. While **chief ministers of Punjab Ch Pervaiz Elahi and NWFP Akram Durrani **reached in another helicopter. All of them were greeted by **former ISI DG Gen Javed Nasir **and other senior volunteers. Chaudhry Rasikh Elahi, son of Prevaiz Elahi, remained there throughout the congregation but his brother Monis Elahi joined him on Saturday night. Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, son of former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif was also there.

Known figures like former pop star Junaid Jamshed, cricketers **Saeed Anwar, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Saeed Ahmad **were also present.

A large number of people kept coming from Lahore before the morning prayers to attend the grand prayer and continued even when the concluding prayers were being held.

A traffic jam was observed at the venue as millions of people left the congregation driving in thousands of vehicles, buses, trucks, pick ups, motorcycles, scooters etc. to their respective destinations throughout the country.

Special trains were also run from Raiwind to up country and down to facilitate the large number of devotees which is known to be the second largest gathering of Muslim pilgrims after Haj in Saudi Arabia. Foreign delegates who had come from about 60 countries waited at Raiwind to clear the routes to the Lahore airport. Some of them had **chartered flights **while others travelled by PIA and air services for which they had made booking in advance. **Special arrangements had been made by the PIA **both at Raiwind and the airport to provide necessary facilities to their passengers.

There was heavy traffic congestion on all roads leading to Raiwind which had been closed before the prayers and opened one way from Raiwind to Lahore and other cities after the prayers. The Lahore** traffic police had made special arrangements to clear the vehicular traffic in the shortest possible time. Both lanes of the road had been reserved for their vehicles. It had made arrangements for the parking of about 15,000 vehicles at about a dozen parking lots at Raiwind. As the congregation ended every body was trying to get the vehicle and it was with great difficulty the vehicles were taken out from the parking lots. Then on the roads, there was a long beeline of vehicles moving at a snail’s pace. The vehicles with their destinations outside Lahore were not allowed to enter the city to avoid traffic jams and they were diverted from Thokar Niaz Baig to the Lahore bypass on way to the motorway. The Pakistan Railways had provided special train services for various destinations besides a special hourly shuttle service from Lahore to Raiwind and back.**

And in present, this is starting on Thursday evening November 08, 2007.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

Why it is held in November every year? What is the reason? Impliedly they rejected the Islamic Calender being primitive and outdated?

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

this is a climate and weather reasen
Basicaly November mounth is normal

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

It means you can not implement Islamic calender in your day to day life! Simply becasue it does not change with seasons and you have to live according to seasons. This creates doubts about other Islamic system for human lives such as economic or banking system.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

you tell me there are millions people and every age of people at a time if the whether is very hot or very cold there are mostly old age person how can they surface it.?

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

you could hold it in November and still be following the Islamic calendar...technically.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

your right bro..

people just want to criticize even by using lame excuses as these!! they seem to throw logic out the door when they don't like something.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

Then fix a better month for Hajj as well! This is a baseless argument by you.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

No its technically the other way round. And do not forget that November also corresponds to a certain chinese and hindu month as well. Baseless argument again.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

there are other mostly religion ijtemas in November
dawat islami 2 November 2007 in Multan, jamaat islaami 4 November 2007 in Shamki bhatyaan, dawatul irshad (lashkar tayyaba) in also In month of November.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

And they have all impliedly rejected Islamic calender whereas they claim that Islam can be imposed as a state system.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

so whats the other way round?. you could follow the Islamic calendar and still be doing it in November... either way youre going round in circles.

if the TJ were to hold an ijtema in the UK they would most probably hold it in the summer months for obvious reasons, nothing to do with calendar(s).

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

hajj is performed according to the hijri calendar... the timing of it wont change now and never will irregardless of the bleating of a very very small minority within the Muslim community.

the brother here is talking about the Ijtema, a gathering which if you dont like/dont have time etc you dont go to...simple as.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

Well my point is that the claims that Islam is a complete system of life is baseless. Taqi Usmani is the sharia adviser of the Meezan Bank. The claim that they have desived an islamic banking system yet when the state bank rises the bank rate, they increase the amount of house loan repayment which they shamelessly call "rent".

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

It is organizations like Tablighi Jamaat that allow dimwits like Mostar to have the audacity to criticize the Shariah way of Life.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

So here is a witty person who striclty follows the Islamic Calender for all his/her activitives round the year, including his/her crop growing, if he/she is a farmer.

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

Re: Tableeghi Ijtema 8 November, 2007

I'm not convinced that's the case.

You're making a big deal out of a non-issue.

Even if they were to hold it consistently on some date in the hijri calendar, then you would be questioning what is the basis for doing it on that hijri date.

Hajj is supposed to made on a certain hijri date. Ijtema type gatherings have no such restriction. They can be made whenever it is convenient or whenever the people organizing decide is the best time.
