Tablecloths/Chairs

Black color for tables and chairs?
Chivaris?

What do you like?

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

Are you talking about this in terms of decoration for weddings? I feel white or an ivory slip on chairs is very elegant with a maroonish or gold ribbon tie. Black is too heavy of a color and will make the hall seem dull. I'm having an engagement coming up and even tho I saw a beautiful black design I chose ivory just because it works well with lighting and makes your hall seem bigger and brighter :D

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

i think the ivory would work better cuz it will make the room/hall much bigger and spacy, dont no exact word. i went to a wedding recently, even tho the hall was small the ivory/white chair covers made the hall bigger. looked really nice also.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I prefer the idea of blk Pareezay, mainly because ivory has been overdone, and also because it will highlight any secondary colour that u choose better than the ivory.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I saw black once, it looked really chic and different from the typical ivory or gold! But it has to go with the whole decor and atmosphere of the room

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I saw black decor done at my sister's SIL's wedding. It was done with gold tissue bows on the chairs. They used black velvet actually..it looked really elegant but it was her maklawa function. Dont know if it will look nice for the reception

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I think black looks tacky... I'm going for a really elegant all white decor.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

i disagree. black can look very elegant if done right. more to come.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

^ True, black can look very elegant. I think lighting plays a very big role in making black decor look classy rather than tacky.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

^ i agree with sgc…black could look elegant if done right…go with black and gray(silverish gray)…

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I think black and beige/gold will look really nice.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

umm, black looks tacky? oooookay!
black is my favvvvvv color, i wouldn't mind having it but i wanted opinions from ya'll on different table cloth colors and chairs. i have seen ivory and white done to death, and need something different. i recently saw someone do red tables AND chairs with RED centerpieces/roses as well as her bridal dress and i felt like i was gonna go blind. so i need ideas for something elegant, nothing OTT or dull.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

also, can someone meaning YOU MAHI post pics of black decor/tables :D

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

^hehe

Black is definately not tacky!!! The thing to bear in mind is not to go overboard in one colour, and therefore choose another colour in addition to the black chair/table covers so that both colours complement and highlight each other (maybe your secondary colour could match the colour of your dress???)

Use lots of lighting and candles to enhance the mood you want to achieve.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

black maybe a bit too over powering for a wedding..unless you are doing the entire wedding under a contemporary theme
wedding colors are totally different from the ones ...say at a black-tie event..you should talk to your planner...
check out theknot.com....
remember..black is a very contemporary color for weddings..so you will have to keep your entire theme in that area...

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

^^agree!! I like black (sophisticated and chic) for a gala or another black tie event, but do not think its an ideal color for a wedding.

I mean yes black would be nice with white lilies as centerpieces, lots of crystal and glass, guests dressed in simple chic chiffon saris, modern beaded jora (minimal and contemporary--white Umar Sayeed number) for the bride, white and silver china, a suit (not a sherwani) for the groom.......

our clothes, jewelry, even doodh pillai glasses are so bright and lively--wouldn't really fit into the whole contemporary black theme.

but IMO--weddings are colorful and lively and would leave black for the first anniversary:)

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

totally agree with chandha and blushringrose. for a galla or a gorah wedding or a very comtemporary desi wedding then yes. i'd magine one of nilofer shahids paris collection western dresses would go with something like that or maybe like br said an umar sayeed white modern number with a suit for the groom. anything else will look like a disaster. LOL.

stunning!!! thanks for posting these.

i don’t agree that black ONLY goes with a gora/modern/blacktie type wedding/event. the ones above can perfectly be done in a desi wedding as well. you dont have to do every single thing black and it can look quite classy to add in the black touch.

and pf, it will look like a ‘disaster’ if you make it look like one.. not if it’s done tastefully. even red/blue/purples or any other bright colors can look disastrous if not done right.

Re: Tablecloths/Chairs

I cannot tell you the type of chairs I’ve sat in at any wedding I’ve attended. I don’t think your family and friends would care about the chairs. It is only the brides that do. If you WANT black chivaris then I guess you would not want chair covers and sashes. The chairs would look good by themselves or with minimal tiebacks in another colour with flowers. Personally I think the look is too glamorous/formal for a desi wedding. But it is your wedding and if you like dramatic touches, by all means go for it!

As everyone said, do add another colour to break the monotony and bring out your lehnga colours.

  • Chiavari chairs in different colours:

  • Black Chiavari chairs:

  • Gold Chiavari chairs:

  • Black and Gold wedding Theme: would be stunning, dazzling and very elegant in a gora wedding but not sure about the colours in a desi setup.
