Table Manners

I was raised in a pretty strict household and from an early age we were taught proper table manners. So when I encounter bad table manners I just lose my appetite. Pet peeves:

Someone who LOVES to talk…they start telling a loooooong story and then take a huge bite of food. While everyone watches them chew and chew, silence around the table until the talker finishes their masticating and resumes the story. GRRRR! I get up and leave the table for that one.

Another talky-type…the one who starts a loud and controversial debate and then gets on a soapbox to lecture those who just want to eat peacefully. To get a heated debate going over the dinner table without regard to children who need attention to get them eating properly. For this one, I interrupt the orator to gently tell my boyz to eat their veggies and without pause, ask them something about their day.

The dinner table is time for peaceful togetherness IMHO. And it drives me NUTS when it doesnt happen.

ok, I feel better now

Re: Table Manners

Ugh, when people talk VERY close to your food. That's just so gross, some people have a habit of spitting while talking. Don't talk during mealtime, period! Or if you must, talk in the other direction.
When people blow their nose, burp loud or start talking about something really gross.. like at several dawats, I have heard aunties say, oh I can't have that, I feel like throwing up when I eat this.. or I feel so nauseous.. or Im gonna get an upset stomach. I wish people would keep their health issues to themselves instead of discussing them with others who are trying to finish their food peacefully.

Re: Table Manners

Nothing beats the fast eater who finishes up in 4 minutes and starts taking LOUD burps while we try finishing up the plate. Biryani in your mouth and stale horseradish burp smell through your nostrils somehow don't sit well together. Please step away if you have no control over burping (or I call farting from mouth)

Re: Table Manners

I dont like burping people...I hate LOUD burpers and AUNTIES do it so much it makes me want to throw up!

Re: Table Manners

How could you even talk when free and scrumptious food is down there at the table :~0

Re: Table Manners

People who stuff their face all at once and then struggle to get it down, coughing everywhere basically choking themselves to death.... hate it. Its like slow down, the food isnt running anywhere. Cant stand people picking at their teeth, blowing their nose, or women touching up their makeup. Dinnertime for me should be a quiet gracious affair, and if one must talk, I'd rather it be light conversation along the lines of how was your day etc as opposed to heavy political talk. People who tip back their chairs and give everyone a scare. Ummm oh, people spitting out bones onto their plates. Gross! Double dipping is nasty too.

I hate the ones that pile the plate so high, it resembles everest, and the ones that blow their noses on the table napkins rather than paper napkins, eeeewwwwwwwww

Oh I REALLY hate it when ppl pile their plates really high, like they are afraid it will finish from them... Even worse when they leave half of it on their plate when they r done.

Messy/sloppy eaters, and those that are loud while eating. reminds me of stoppit's avatar

Re: Table Manners

I was once a very annoying person ..

Re: Table Manners

People who slurp their food and munch loud. I don’t have much against it and understand people enjoy their food in different manners, but when someone close to me does that, it puts me off my food and I can’t eat. I leave my food untouched. It is weird. Makes my stomach go funny.

And people who belch, blow their nose loudly:mad:

Re: Table Manners

TLK loves people who chew when they talk on the phone with him :omg:

:omg: i agree!

Re: Table Manners

How about sharing a table with a tablighi jamat follower who insists upon telling everyone else that they are not allowed to talk when they are eating and and to eat with their hands not spoons or forks?

Re: Table Manners

My husband hates when I bang my spoon against my plate…or when i slurp my soup :bummer:

btw, if u (generally) dont like seeing bones and stuff…start serving boneless food
