^ most of the ones i mentioned are not commercially available but it's made fresh in almost all the homes in UP during certain seasons. i can't find any pictures online. sorry :(

Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Lavash is actually Armenian, not Middle Eastern (although it has now been lumped into ME cuisine). It can also be found in parts of Turkey and Iran. It’s made in a clay oven, and is very thin. I’ve never heard of it in Pakistan though :hmmm:

One secret of longativity of the hunza people is their low fat diet and diet full of fibre and organic vegetarian food. Hunza bread (Phitti as it is called locally) has inherited a huge fame and here is some thing about it.

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Isn’t phulka just a roti? At least that’s how it’s referred to as sometimes in my family.

Papadum is papar. How that classifies as a “roti” I don’t know.

I know I’ve heard of phitti, but I can’t remember what exactly it is. Intense googling tells me this is a phitti Dal ki Kachori or Pitthi wali poori - Ammas.com Ask Agent™ : Ask questions, Seek advice, Ask an expert I wonder if this is the same thing you can get sometimes with halwa poori and channay on the weekends. It might be.

I was confusing it with katlamabefore though, but it’s definitely not the same thing.

Or maybe I’m just confusing phitti with bhatoora. But I know I’ve heard of phitti

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Papadam, karudam, vdam

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

yes papadum is papaR and may be they classified it under roti/ bread, as sometimes it is consumed it different chatnis, etc.

Phulka is just simple roti / chapati, normally phooli hui.

I remember after returning from school, I used to go to kitchen, where Amma used to prepare roti. many times, we saw roti phooling on tawwa. Amma used to say ‘jab khane wale ko boht bhook lagi ho, to roti phool jati hai’. lols

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Phulka goes well with phupho

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

That cracked me up. I am sure when you were a kid you believed that!

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Had to believe. maa hamesha sahi kehti hai. :)

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

phupho? South Indian saalan? We only know one use of phupho / phuppo.

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

That's what I meant. Phuppo. Aunt? The 2 words go well together. Throw in papadam and u r all set.

Re: Taaftaan, Sheermaal, Kulcha

Roghni Naan (massively popular in Lahore)

Peshawari Naan (stuffed with nuts and raisins)

Another variant of Peshawari Naan also known as ‘dodday’. I fondly remember having them on our holiday in KPK.

Punjabi Missi Roti (served with either desi ghee or home made butter)
