Why are established nations suddenly struggling to score 170+ consistently in T20. How many times have we seen sides taking 7-8 runs off an over in 50-over games by just sticking to basics and applying a bit of commonsense i.e. pinching singles and twos with the odd boundary here and there. Why with T20 we suddenly think of big shots from the word go? Why can't teams just concentrate on acceleration by playing risk-free cricket in the early overs and then go for the really big shots in the last 5 or 6 overs. Heaved shots and drives are really handy when they come off but you always run the risk of holing out in the deep. I reckon Miandad and Bevan would have made very good T20 players as well because of their sheer ability to place the ball in gaps. Ofcourse both also had the ability to strike a few lusty blows as well
