After seeing Ireland come so close to producing another shock of T20 today - restricting Sri Lanka’s powerful batting to 144 was a very good effort by the Irish - Pakistan w’d do well not to take them lightly
Hope we retain the same team that played against New Zealand yesterday and hope we play with the same zeal and spirit. With Fawad Alam in the team we bat upto no. 8
It will be the same ground (The Oval) again and the game starts at 13:30 local, 12:30 GMT.
Re: T20 World Cup: Pakistan v Ireland - June 15, 2009
we will need to field first, restrict them to a small total, and then chase it down fast
runrate is going to be important, and i don't really see the pakistan batting posting anything close to 200 if batting first
Re: T20 World Cup: Pakistan v Ireland - June 15, 2009
My money is on Gul,Razzaq,Afridi and Ajmal, all have bowled superbly all over the tournament…If they get their hands bowling first, then definitely, we can restrict Ireland on a low total.
INSHA ALLAH, we will do our best and will be victorious tomorrow.
^ Shahzaib 19 reminds me of a young Inzi with his clean hitting and ability to strike the ball really hard plus like Inzi he seems prone to runouts......in Inzi's case it was laziness, in Shahzaib's case it is overexcitement and impatience.
And if he is not careful he might put on weight like Inzi....mind you Inzi was a lot slimmer at 19

We must win, and win big to be safe. New Zealand will have the advantage of playing the last game and knowing exactly how much they need to score to make it to the semis.
Pakistan could still go to the semis even if they lose to Ireland, but that would require Sri Lanka giving New Zealand a thrashing, or New Zealand giving Sri Lanka an even bigger thrashing.
Re: T20 World Cup: Pakistan v Ireland - June 15, 2009
afridi and shahzaid must open...razzaq and akmal should come later..misbah and malik have to raise their game ..misbah seriously lacks shots..pakistan should bowl first..
comprehensive victory must be the target of pakistan
Re: T20 World Cup: Pakistan v Ireland - June 15, 2009
Misbah doesn't lack shots. He's the ideal T20 batsman, he can clobber the ball when needed, and rotate the strike and keep the score ticking when required. Malik's batting, on the other hand, is rather limited.

If Pak loses to Ireland and NZ beats SL we are out, no run rate problems because both teams will have 4 points and we will have 2 points. RR comes into play if both Pak win and NZ win otherwise if Pak wins and NZ loses , Pak are through, NZ wins and pak loses NZ is through. Simple. Lets hope pak wins and NZ loses especially after their captain instead of accepting the thrashing at the hands of Umar Gul was trying to cast doubt on the reverse swing he was getting. Pathetic tactics by NZ captain.

Yes, you're right. Pakistan needs NZ to lose, but if we win the Ireland game by a big margin, then even if NZ wins (marginally), we'd still be in good shape.

I think Younis should avoid giving the Irish locker room material with statements about crushing them tomorrow! He should give Irish credit and only issue positive public relations statement and let our performance do the talking! Lets not be like our arrogant Indian counterparts!
