Pakistan cricket never ceases to amaze me. Here’s a talented guy Fawad Alam, who has been ignored from selection despite performing brilliantly every time he has been given a chance. And now, according to this report, he could become the T20 captain! Well I am all for this move if it happens. I think it’s about time Pakistan tried the fresh blood rather than old faces like Afridi.

The report also says that Umar Akmal and Ahmad Shahzad have made their case weaker because of controversies. Akmal should never be allowed to come anywhere near the captains seat.

Well, Dawn makes no mention of Fawad Alam but names Afridi, Hafeez, and Sohaib Maqsood as likely candidates. I like Sohaib too but he hasn’t proven himself enough. He could definitely be a future star though.

Okay, my third (and hopefully final) edit: According to another article in Dawn, Fawad Alam IS the leading candidate for T20 captaincy.

the most deserving candidate for T-20 matches is undoubtedly the tuk-tuk expert, none other than MisbaaH ul Haq! :D

I dont recomend to bring Fawad alam in T20. This will destroy his place in ODI. He should be sleceted for Tests

Same is here but may be by this he can make place in Test Squad. I think there must be a change in captaincy and I am sure Lala has big heart and he will feel no problem while playing under junior players. But other group can cause some problem. Because Pakistan history tells us that Pakistani senior players never like to play under captaincy of a junior player.

I think it makes sense for Fawad Alam to become captain of T20. We need someone other than Afridi, Hafeez, Misbah and Younus Khan. I think he is mature enough to be able to handle this role. Afridi is useless as a cricketer, forget about him as captain. He doesn't deserve it and certainly does not have the mental strength, character, personality or the cricketing skills to become a captain. I met Afridi at a NY fundraiser and he was so rude to all his fans and pissed off. He was getting paid by this organization to come to NY and raise funds for relief work. But he was very rude to all people who came to see him. He was angry on stage and not smiling. Pathetic.

I am also not in fav. of fawad in t20's.

He is more of a Test/Odi batsman...and a very good one at that.

I would have had Afridi as cap of T20...these are his last few months anyways. One last hurrah???

why do a lot of people keep wanting these old, tired horses as captains, despite numerous failures, even at world cups ??

Afridi is nothing but an arrogant glamourized so-called hero of the past. Neither his batting nor bowling are effective anymore, most of the time he is at crease means the other team will surely pick his wicket and more pressure onto the rest of the tail. His bowling is not effective anymore, he can barely make any effect on wickets these days. He is riding his past glory of a few days.

Hafeez, Misbah do nothing but waste balls and put more pressure on the rest. The result? Too much score to chase and not enough balls left to chase, or to set a good target. These days need like 10 overs just to settle down and realize what the pitch is offering.

why not groom a youngster who can captain for like a decade or so, rather than a new captain every 6 months, the result of which is that nearly all of the team is some sort of captain at some point.

Any people responsible for "grouping" should be thrown out, whether old or young, just ban forever.

Well that's all we got; the bench pretty much sucks and we don't have enough talented players in the domestic system.....so our only choice persist with all we got.

Afridi might be over rated but he's a big game player, he's clutch in NBA terms; he performs when he's needed most(T20 WC '09, Asia cup against India,world cup 2011), he surprises everybody; we don't have any clutch players left in the team, we used to have Razzaq ad Kamran Akmal who used fight till the last ball when needed, but now it's only Afridi and Misbah
