T.v. Viewing Can Add Pounds

RESEARCH
T.V. VIEWING CAN ADD POUNDS

A study reported in an issue of the “The Physician and Sports Medicine” suggests a possible link between T.V. viewing and obesity in men. One research shows that men who viewed more than 3 hrs of T.V. per day were twice as likely to be obese compared to those who viewed less than oner hr per day.

Their conclusion can be interpreted in 3 ways.First, obesity may cause increased viewing (obese men may be more drawn to T.V. than physically fit men).Second T.V. viewing and obesity may each be caused by other common facts; and third.excessive viewing may cause obesity because it encourages sedentary behaviour.

But some researchers are careful not to draw a direst cause and effect relationship between T.V. viewing and obesity. They recommend, however, that even people who are fit should limit their T.V. viewing to about an hr hr per day to prevent physical inactivity.

doesnt fit in my case....I am not obese and I watch tv for about 3 hours a day....i read in dawn some days ago that watching tv for more than 3 hours a day causes u sleep disorders and memory loss...so this may be the case with me...I am trying to reduce my timings..thanks for the info ghazala

Well sure, you just can’t point at a single source and say “Hey, that’s why men are fat slobs!”

“Overweight and obesity are a result of energy imbalance over a long period of time. The cause of energy imbalance for each individual may be due to a combination of several factors. Individual behaviors, environmental factors, and genetics all contribute to the complexity of the obesity epidemic.”

And those 3 hours of TV viewing are hardly quality TV programming hours . The X factor here is the remote control, keeps us glued to the tube as we become mad channel hopping machines.

Hmmm and wasn’t remote control co-invented by a female actress named Hedy Lamarr. Ha, now that’s interesting ain’t it?
