Two major types of Thyroid problems can be detecting and symptoms for both are very close to each other.
** Hyperthyroidism primary and secondary ]**
- Heat intolerance
- weight loss with good appetite
- hyperactivity
- fine hair
- palpitations
- diarrhea
- warm, moist skin ** Lab Test: TSH test
Primary Hyper:** TSH levels will be** low** with elevated T4 hormone
Secondary Hyper: TSH levels will be high with elevated T4
**
Hypothyroidism [primary and secondary]**
- Cold intolerance
- weight gain with decrease appetite [this weight gain is due to edema not fat or extra calories]
- weakness
- constipation
- dry cool skin
- myxedema
Lab Test: TSH levels
Primary Hypo: TSH high with low T4s
Secondary Hypo: TSH low with low T4s
Remember if detected Secondary Hyper/Hypo - It means your thyroid is working fine but you might have problems coming directly from Pituitary gland.
