Syed Hussain Shah, Only Pakistani Boxer, who won Bronze Medal in Seoul Olympics, 1988

I must say Pakistan has great talent in boxing but there is no one who can bring talent from streets to International Arena. I also heard that Once Great Jahangir Khan (Squash Legend), support Hussain Shah and beard his ticket & other expenses while sending him in some tournament. Lyyaari has great talent in boxing, the only need to get trained them but I am very sorry to say there is no one who is sincere with the people of Pakistan, every one is just getting mad to get power. But I salute some great people who are serving the nation without any greed the great example Edhi and people who are giving food and shelter in Pakistan even no one know their name.
Anyway, I was just got emotional after reading about this boxer. Here we go …

Hussain Shah concerned about Pakistan boxing - thenews.com.pk

**KARACHI: Former Olympic medalist Syed Hussain Shah has expressed concern over the way the authorities in Pakistan are handling boxing affairs and said it has damaged the sport greatly.
**
“Both the PBF secretary Akram Khan and president Doda Bhutto are responsible for the destruction of boxing in the country. It was Akram who brought Doda into the field and now both are fighting and for the last few months national boxers have been in their homes without any activities, which is disappointing,” Hussain told ‘The News’ in a telephonic interview from Japan on Monday.

Shah is the only Pakistani boxer to have won a medal in the Olympics history — a bronze in the 1988 Seoul Games. His fine feat in the middleweight had prompted Pakistani government to confer on the Lyari-born pugilist the prestigious award of Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1989.

Shah is now settled in Japan with his family and is imparting training to professional boxers in Tokyo. Recently he has purchased a house in the Japan capital.

Shah Hussain Shah and Shahzaib, his sons from his second wife, represent Pakistan in judo.

Shah, who won five gold medals in his illustrious career in the South Asian Games from 1984 to 1991, said there was no future for boxers in Pakistan. “There is a lot of talent but it is on the mercy of corrupt people and it is a matter of great concern,” the Olympian said.

Shah called for fresh elections of the PBF as soon as possible. “There must be fresh elections as soon as possible as the situation is out of control of Akram and Doda,” Shah said.

Differences between Doda and Akram surfaced during the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing tournament in Islamabad in December last year.

The matter took an ugly turn when Pakistani boxers flopped in the Olympic Qualifiers in Astana early this year. Both of them hurled allegations of corruption at each other through media.

On the intervention of some of the influential persons of the PBF, the authorities were forced to convene a general body meeting in June here at a local hotel in a bid to resolve the issue. Akram pleaded his case forcefully, while Doda failed to defend himself, which damaged his reputation.

The PBF Executive Vice-President Waqar Maroof was made an arbitrator and it was decided that the PBF would not take any decision regarding administrative and financial affairs without the concurrent approval from Waqar, who is also the president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Boxing Association. But Doda, violating the decision, took some administrative and financial decisions without consulting Waqar.

He transferred around Rs9 million to his brother’s account from the PBF account, which was frozen on the advice of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) following a rift between the PBF top officials. He also dissolved the PBF Referees / Judges Commission on the plea that its chairman Ali Akber Shah was seriously ill and could not handle its affairs.

Following this, Akram filed a case against his chief in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which is yet to be disposed off.

In order to bring the federation out of trouble, some of the stakeholders, including Waqar, wanted to convene an Executive Committee meeting so that the matter could be discussed and schedule of the elections could be announced but so far no concrete step has been taken in that direction.

The PBF elections are due in December and the way Doda and Akram have dealt with the affairs of the federation, it is almost certain that the duo would be rejected in the electoral meeting.

Both the secretary and the president support different actors in sports politics. Doda is backing Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) chief Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan, while Akram is with the Akram Sahi group. These two groups are currently are at loggerheads over the implementation of the national sports policy.
