Re: Switzerland...
Try bombay karachi its in the central. There's also a few turkish restaurants their i remember that cater for halal food.
Re: Switzerland...
Oooh you are going to love it :D
We spent a day each in Zermatt, St Moritz (skiing town), stayed in Montreux for 2 nights and commuted to Geneva from there since lodging is probably cheaper in Montruex. Lucern is really nice, we took a boat cruise there as well as in Geneva. Dont forget to go up the mountains in Lucern. We took a little train to the top of Mount Pliatus and it was gorgeous.
I am sure you could find halal food if you looked hard enough esp in bigger cities, we survived on Burger King/McDonalds since it was teh cheaper option and not bad at all (their veggie burger is great). Breakfast was always part of our hotel packages and its a good thing it was since food is really really expensive there. Or it was to us Americans atleast. There is an indian rest in Lucern, ofcourse i dont remember where but not sure if they serve halal or not. We just went for chai since that was the thing we missed the most.
Food wise, dont miss the fondue. We had it in Zurich and it was totally yummy.
For travelling, we had acquired a 7 day pass and it was good on boat cruises, trains, trams, etc. Was totally worth it to have one. Just inquire about it before you board ofcourse but trains for sure are totally covered in that.
Enjoy your vacation and share pics with us.
Re: Switzerland...
Ira, where did you purchase/enquire about the 7 day pass if you dont mind me asking?
Re: Switzerland...
Orpheus, i dont mind at all. We went through a travel agent and she sent all the information to us, including the pass. After we landed at Zurich, we had it validated at the train station there.

Ira!! This was very very helpful...thanks a bunch :)
the 7 day pass....was it called a swiss pass?
Re: Switzerland...
Yeah alisha, i think it was called the swiss rail pass or something like that.
Re: Switzerland…
Yes, it’s the Swiss Rail Pass, you can buy an 8 consecutive day pass and if you buy a companion ticket which requires two parties to travel together all the time, it’s much cheaper. You can buy it right at the Bahnoff (main train station) in Zurich. You will have to prove that you are non Swiss citizens/residents as these passes are only available to tourists.
I would also add Bern as a one day trip, Bern is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, make sure to climb to the top of Bern Munster, the tallest structure in all of Switzerland. Also go feed the Bears in Bern and visit Parliament.
Instead of stopping in Interlaken, continue on to Grindelwald, stay the night there and the next day, take the train to the top of JungFrauJoch, the highest railroad station in Europe. Here, you can walk across some of the glaciers, go INSIDE the glaciers and generally enjoy some nice cool snow. Then once at the top, instead of taking the train all the way back down, get off at the first station on the way back called Kleine Scheidegg, from there you can either walk the Eiger trail or walk down to a small railroad station called Alpinglen, it’s an absolutely beautiful hike down and you will run into little streams of glacier run off, delicious to drink and soak your feet in.
In Zurich, make sure you go to St. Peter’s Church and Gross Munster. Also, take the time to walk along the Limmat river and take a water taxi on to Lake Zurich (Zurich Se). Take the time to eat plenty of Movenpick, chocolate is the best flavor.
Oh, I’m so jealous, you’ll have such a blast God willing.
As far as eating, you can go to the local grocery store (the Co-Op) and buy fresh bread called (Zoft) and fresh cheese and honey and some drinks. You will be able to survive on those things.
My favorite part was walking down from JungFrau, there’s nothing quite like hiking in the Swiss Alps, here are some pictures:
Re: Switzerland...

and thanks a bunch for all the info... : )
I think now, that all of you guys have helped me a great deal...I can easily plan out my 7 days in Switzerland....:D
Cheers!
Re: Switzerland...
JungFrauJoch is very good, we went there too. Lots of people speak English so that's not an issue. For food we just ate mostly fish , once I did see some arab food around but as someone else said survive on mac donalds. Up in teh mountainbs The air is like pure oxygen, hard to explain really but it is and even the tap water is amazing. One thing though, if you eat out and ask for water, they bring you bottled water and charge you for it.
