Switching Jobs: Impact on MBA admission

Aasalam O Alaikum!

I am a recent graduate working at a commercial bank as a “Graduate Trainee” for about six months now. I am being offered another job of “Management Trainee” at a much better bank offering a better designation and salary, but the problem is that I am worried that a job switch too much early might not have a negative impact on my mba admission and the interviewers might ask "what prompted you to switch so early? what about finding opportunities within the same organization?

I am interested in gaining admission abroad at a foreign university (U.S, U.K) for my mba…

What do you suggess? should I go for the new job or stay with the same???

One more thing both the banks are local (Pakistani) and I know that working at some foreign bank will help me more… plus the new offer also requires me to sign a bond of at least three years restricting me to switch to any foreign bank whereas the existing job has no bond… thats why someone suggested me to stay with my current job and then after a year or two switch to any foreign one…

your replies will be really appreciated…

thanks!

Waiting for suggestions!
Confused.

Re: Switching Jobs: Impact on MBA admission

well if its too recent and you have only few months in current role, then i would say switch to new and better opportunity, you dont have to mention the first job when you go for MBA.

if the oppertunity is good and have better progression then i dont think signing a bond will harm anything unless you planning to change in next 2 years or so.

I second that.

Re: Switching Jobs: Impact on MBA admission

I also think it's early enough in your career - and you're safe in switching to better opportunities.

A lot depends on the timeline that you have in mind for pursuing your MBA. If you are considering at least 2 - 3 years of work experience before starting your MBA, then you certainly have nothing to worry about with just one switch. It shouldn't be a factor for admissions.

Re: Switching Jobs: Impact on MBA admission

So what about the second issue? i.e. if i decide on this new job then "Will its experience be worth to get me an admission into a foreign university or a multinational bank would help me more???"

I am saying this because this new job requires me to sign a three yrs bond which means that for three yrs i wont be able to switch to any foreign bank. whereas while sticking with my current job i can switch after a yr or so.........

so what do you think would be the better option:

3 yrs at a local Pakistani bank? OR
1 yr at Pakistani bank+2 yrs at say barclays, citi or rbs???

Re: Switching Jobs: Impact on MBA admission

The way I see it... a job at a foreign back is still an uncertainty and at an earlier phase in your career, you have more leeway to "try" out options that interest you more. Graduate Schools as well as potential employers understand this.

So unless you can associate a relatively high level of certainty that you'll be able to get that job with a foreign bank and that job is going to offer significantly more than this alternative job opportunity, you really have little to lose by accepting this job. I'm saying this in light of the fact that you intend to leave your job to pursue an MBA in a couple of years time anyways.
