Swiss Franc cap lifted

On Thursday the Swiss Central bank lifted the 1.20 Francs to a Euro cap , with the Franc rising to 0.87 Francs to a Euro before settling down at 1.05 at days end. In last couple of days the Franc is 21 to 23 pct higher wrt the us dollar and euro.

Lots of individual “investors” with leverage have been wiped out. The big banks have suffered huge losses.

To the economic and political pundits here - what would be the impact of this mega move on the European and global economy. And financial markets (the economy and markets need not move in sync)

Source WSJ Jan 16 - from memory.

If the Swiss really leave the euro, then the euro will suffer a lot. A lot of international monies is kept in switzerland, IYKWIM ;)
