Measures taken by Ministry of Health
In view of the above situation, the following preventive measures were adopted by Ministry of Health:
a) Instructions were issued to all Provincial Health Departments including FATA, FANA, AJK and all missions abroad to raise level of alertness.
b) Heads of all Educational Institution within the domain of Federal & Provincial administration be aware of this new situation and may announce that children with flu like symptoms may not come to school.
c) Heads of all Hospitals with the domain of Federal& Provincial administration to issue following instructions for doctors in OPDs.
i) Wear masks while attending patients.
ii) Take careful history of the patients with flu like symptoms.
iii) A press release with careful wording not creating an alarm may also be considered.
d) Stockpiling of Oseltamir 75mg tablets a dose of B.D for05 days for a population of 25,000 each in Lahore & Peshawar, 35,000 each in Karachi, 10,000 each in Quetta, 15, 000 each in Islamabad and 1,000 each in FATA, FANA and AJK (80 %medicine in tablets form& 20 % in syrup form for Children)
**e) All passengers coming from Mexico & North America with Flue like symptoms be screened at airports.
f) Obtain the medical clearance certificate for Swine Flu from intending visitors to Pakistan who have recently been to Mexico,U.S.A, Netherland (Holland), Switzerland, Hong Kong and Denmark.**
g) Crews of all arriving aircrafts are instructed to be vigilant& observe passenger for flu like symptoms.
h) The Nationalinfluenza surveillance programme NILSP being implemented by the NationalInstitute of Health (NIH), Islamabad,in collaboration with CDC.
