swimming for kidd

Recently I have enrolled my daughter in swimming school. I am more excited than her and of course it will take for her to learn. But how long any way?. She is 5 and quick learner, bt lessons are $20 for 30 min. I only intend to send her for 1 year.

Hubby hates community swimming pools than how can she practice?

What are you guys experience? .ideas??

Thanks

Re: swimming for kidd

I was in swimming school from age 5-7. Once a week. And I’m a pretty decent swimmer today.

Why does your husband hate community swimming pools? Do you have access to indoor pools in your area?

Re: swimming for kidd

OP your daughter is young and she will learn it quickly. Not sure if there is a certain number of lessons which can assure that they have learned it all.

I used to take my daughter last summer (she was 3 at that time) for swim lessons. They were the beginner level and at the community pool. They were daily, for three weeks and every lesson was 40 mins/day.She had never been in water except for the waddling pool and she learned pretty quick. For some reason we did not continue the lessons once summer was over but she got very comfortable in water.I am iA planning and hoping to get her into the next level this summer.

Re the community pool, yeah there are concerns about them but I just tried to look past them as that was the only option since we do not have a pool at home.

OP, It will take your daughter a few years to be proficient. The more you expose her to the water the more comfortable she will be in it. Learning to swim is not as much about learning swimming techniques but more about being comfortable in the water, not being anxious, knowing how your body behaves in the water, and knowing your limits. What is your husband’s issue with a community pool?

Finally, think of learning to swim this way, do you want your child to have a life skill that may some day save hers or someone else’s life or do you want to hem and haw at a community pool and its challenges?
