W/Salam.

I don't know about the gunnah part of it aleena, but swearing at someone is a way of disrespecting them. That's the offensive part.

Also, it's not the word that people are annoyed about, it's the insinuation and the implication.

Would you like to be called a "female dog"? Of course not. So it's offensive. That makes it impolite and disrespectful. If you must relate it to religion then, no religion teaches or appreciates disrespect.

Its universally disrespectful to curse/swear at other people without any reason> [sometimes its disrespectful even with a reason.

*well my question is dat why is it gunaah to swear cuz like it's jus words that mean something not something bad. FOREXAMPLE: "bitch" means a female dog and "shit" means something too but when they're...how come considered bad? *

First of all its the intention with which a term is used. Coz almost always, the a curse word is used with the intention of denigrating someone else, so whether that word in reality has a normal meaning or not, its wrong, since not only is it hurting the other person psychologically, its also a direct refutation of Allahs SWT words.....coz in the Quran it is clearly said..
"wa laa tanabazoo bil alqaab"
and do not call anyone any names.

And I dont think there is any other religion out there that condones calling each others names either. And mind you, its not always the word thats used. Its the sense in which its used. You mentioned the word bitch, but you will be surprised at how many people get offended when someone calls then hitler....and hitler was a human. So why the offense? because of the meaning behind it. You are associating hitlers characteristics with that person. Similary when you call someone a bitch, you are associating bitchy characteristics with that person. Noone like that for themselves....and shouldnt like it for others either.

aleena i also have a question..how old r u???

you do not have to use any bad words to swear..

it all depends on the meaning or intention.. mostly it is about hurting other people feelings - not a good thing..

hmmm sherazz, i don’t think dis topic wuz bout askin eacother’s “age”…so y u askin?n wut givez u an idea dat i wuld answer u on dat question? n by da way why did u even ask it?

Aleena,

I believe that sherazz asked the question about your age because your questions come across as very naive. Nothing wrong with that....we have many young participants on the bulletin board. It's just easier to know the age so that we can explain things in terms and with analogies that will make sense to you.

Now....for your next question.....

Using "bad" words just for the heck of it again may not be gunnah as such but it sure does reflect your upbringing/sophistication and maturity.

A well-bred person avoids the use of profanity. They are usually able to convey their message, no matter how extreme it may be, without "bad" words.

It shows that you know how to respect the feelings of others and that you are sensitive to what other people consider polite and impolite.

The simplest way to find an answer for yourself is to ask yourself the following question:

"Why are these words considered "bad" words?"
