We can’t associate Hindu as a religion with Hindi. Though Hindi has vocabulary from Sanskrit and other languages & dialects and ancient Hindu text is written in Sanskrit but Bengali speaking Hindu, Tamil Hindu, Telugu Hindu etc are there. Almost all Indo-Aryan languages took vocabulary from Sanskrit in some form.
