Swami Ramdev to teach Yoga in Pakistan

This is probably the first time that an Indian (or Hindu) would hold a mass congregation in Pakistan to teach an ancient Indian excercise form. This is similar to a Pakistani cleric coming to India and giving a discourse. This shows that relations between the two countries are improving, because such an event would have been unthinkable just 3-4 years ago.

Would he be allowed by the Pakistani Government ? If yes then would the clerics allow him to come to Pakistan (they may declare Yoga as “UnIslamic” just as they declared Basant as “UnIslamic”). Finally would the ordinary people attend his Yoga camps ?

**Swami Ramdev to conduct Yoga camps in Pakistan **

After winning millions of followers in India, renowned Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev is all set to conduct his training camps on foreign soil, starting with Pakistan in July, motivating people there to practice the traditional Indian vedic system.

A newspaper survey, voted him as the ‘‘most popular Indian in Pakistan’’, ranking even Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan behind him.

S K Teijarewala, the spokesman of the Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogapeeth, headed by the yoga Guru said that Swami Ramdev believes that his mission for bringing health and peace is for the entire humanity, transcending the geographical boundaries.

He further reiterated that the Swami’s itinerary during the year will also take him to US, Britain, Japan and Australia.

Swami Ramdev said he was under tremendous pressure from millions of overseas Yoga followers, not only the Non-Resident Indians but also the local residents, who have already established a bonding with him through Astha TV channel, telecast in over hundred countries.

A survey by a national news channel has also received people’s endorsement that the Swami should propagate India’s age-old Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedic culture on foreign soil.

The spokesman maintained that there are around seventeen million Yoga followers in the US.

The popularity of the Yoga is increasing phenomenally is indicative of the fact as the West is eagerly looking towards the East to show them the path of a constructive, stress-free and healthy existence.

For those who may not know, Swami Ramdev is the most widely followed teacher of Yoga in India. He has an almost cult following.

Re: Swami Ramdev to teach Yoga in Pakistan

Yoga originated on Pakistani soil not Indian and it has nothing to do with Hinduism, Yoga is older than Hinduism but was later incorporated into Hinduism who added a few unnecessary Hindu practices to it and hence it came to be associated with Hinduism.

India and Pakistan share a common heritage but India should stop acting like the "original" or the "big brother" because just as there wasn't any Pakistan back then there also wasn't an India, it was just South Asia which was renamed to something different every time a different dynasty made it a part of their kingdom.

^ They cannot forget Pakistan.

Yaar let them be proud of Yoga. Let them take it....

Re: Swami Ramdev to teach Yoga in Pakistan

Really ? And even if it did were it your ancestors who gave birth to it ?
NO. They were Hindus.

Complete Nonsense. Yoga exercises are detailed in Bhagawad Gita, the Vedas and most importantly the Upanishads. The oldest reference to Yoga are found from the Vedic texts of the Vedic civilization from the banks of Saraswathi river--the Vedas of Hindus that you know of today.
Before making frivolous claims, just do some research.

So Faruk, have you bought tickets to the Swamiji's camp ?
Or has some mullah advised you that its "UnIslamic" ?

Re: Swami Ramdev to teach Yoga in Pakistan

Yoga is not just a physical excercise like everybody thinks. It is something more. It is more concerned with spirituality. You may say it was invented by vedantists or followers of vedas and those very vedantists or followers of vedas are now called hindus. By the way, if anyone calls us vedantists instead of hindus, i have no problems with that.

The very popularity of yoga in the west is attributed to people like paramahamsa yogananda, patthabhi jois, Deepak chopra and some more. By the way patthabhi jois is from my city. Yoga talks of things like kriya yoga, ashtanga yoga etc involving completely sanskrit terms. When the language is sanskrit, it is quiet obvious, to whom it is linked to. So in every way it is linked to hinduism or vedantists.
moreover, the very ancient sanskrit texts including that of yoga, are preserved and maintained at the sanskrit research centre in melkote taluk of my city.

Besides, i dont want to take any pride of it, just because i am a hindu or vedantist. Yoga is universal. Anyone can learn it.
