Re: Swaddling Question

I used to wrap my daughter in receiving blanket for like 4-5 months (but she was born premature and I had to keep her warm) . But what I have seen in my family babies are wrapped for good 3-4 months and it makes them easy to carry and the ladies in my family says that it keeps the bones straight. I don't really agree with the later part because in one family they didn't practice swaddling at all yet all of their grown up kids have straight bones and postures.

I can PM you some of my daughter's pics fully wrapped if you want.

and I used to buy blankets from baby shop . It was very soft and light fabric.

But I am concerned about your home not having any ac or fan. If its really hot you can only wrap your baby during the night.

aww thanks diamond :hugz: … I know how to swaddle and I am a big proponent of swaddling too… I didn’t know abt the bones part ..but I would do it coz i’ve read it makes the baby feel warm and secure…

any idea of how to tell if the baby is too hot… ??? like when they are swaddled…

Re: Swaddling Question

the best thing to use for swaddling is a light weight cotton fabric, don’t use a blanket to swaddle, it will make the baby hotter. i use an lawn cotton fabric, this way you can layer the baby up in blankets and take them away if he/she gets too hot.
to tell if the baby is too hot you can get room thermometers, and there are recomended layer guide depending on the temperature of the room
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/buyingforbaby/cotscribsbedding/bedding/ this gives an idea

twice I just wrapped my baby too much and her body temperature was increased. Actually before leaving the NICU the nurse warned me not to keep her too warm as it raises the body temperature. She told me how many babies are rushed in ER with high temperature and all they do is take off their clothes and give them bath and send them back home once the temperature is normal. I was actually supposed to take her temperature every 3 hours thats how I came to know that it’s too hot for her now.

Re: Swaddling Question

the best way to know how warm or hot ure baby is to feel the neck. thats it. it should be cool.. nto warm not cold. go from there.
another place to check is tummy.. but its just much eaiser to check teh back of the neck...

and ya.. use a thin sheet especialy made for swaddling.. not the flannel ones.. my kid had both.. i used teh flannel when it was cold and the thin ones when it was warm.

good luck.. ure close :)

Re: Swaddling Question

swaddling is ok but some ppl tent to over do it, in babycenter it says:
**
'Once your baby is about a month old you might want to stop swaddling him while he's awake, as it may interfere with mobility and development in older babies. It's fine to keep swaddling your baby for naps and nighttime if he seems to sleep better that way. He'll let you know by crying or kicking when he no longer wants to be bundled up.'

Re: Swaddling Question

for winter i used to swaddle my daughter in flannel like blanket but now in summers i am using my old lawn suits duppatas (1 dupatta makes 2) to wrap her, as older lawn is more softer n thinner...

mano ..what an amazing idea... I could use my old dupattas to swaddle the baby while they are sleeping .. and if we are going out I could probably use nicer blankets....
