Im using windows xp pro, I just wanna know that why are there 4 “svchost.exe” on the windows task manager…it says they are using a lot of memory…when i end task one of them, it gives me 60 secs till it restarts by itself. I just wanna know how to disable svchost.exe and/or whats the purpose of svchost.exe. Any help will be appreciated
Svchost.exe (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) is an integral part of Windows OS. It cannot be stopped or restarted manually. It manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load. In normal conditions multiple instances of Svchost.exe run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging
^ That'll crash the system ... I did it once ... got a blue screen and computer restarted :p ... But I've read that sometimes viruses disguise themselves using this process name .... so be carefull ...
I think it does need internet Access because in order to access the Internet, certain paramaters are passed to the same program. But you can deny Internet access to this process and see if it makes much of a difference. If the Internet does not work then you can grant access to this process from within Zonealarm.
