SUV tax break..

so there is this tax break if you buy an SUV. what is the deal with that..
i mean how does it work, is it for people using it for business only or do ghareeb nine to fivers get in on the action too.

if it is only for business owners, what if i have a lame business..registered and all but doesn’t do much?

accountants…u know?

i am not much of an accountant but doesnt tax break means that the business has to be making enuff money to be able to pay those taxes in the first place to get a break on the original amount or the suv price !! ??

it is for a certain size SUV and last i checked only the heavyweights fit the class..

the argument was that it helped business owners purchase a vehicle that would be used in their business..

I don't see many roofers in Hummers though..

babay

i was reading an article and its not just the heavy weights, a BMW X5 will work also. I am still trying to figure out how this thing works, because there is some debate about it, and i want to take advantage of it, if I can, before itr gets repealed or further specified and narrowed to exclude ppl like me :)

aray hay koi accountant, tax advisor yahan parr..

jo advice daay uss ka bhi bhala, aur jo naa daay uss ko qabbz ho.

^ :hehe: Sounds interesting. Nothing like exploiting loopholes in the law, while they exist

And would it apply if you’ve already purchased one 2 yrs ago? :hehe:

You have to have business income to get benefit of this tax break. The law was originally intended for pick-up trucks used in farming and small businesses. Then it was expanded to include the so-called SUV's. The SUV has to weigh more than 6,000 pounds, and after the conomic stimulus package was passed, one can deduct upto $100,000 from the business income. You can't offset against your salary W-2. So even if you create a dummy business, it has to generate enough income to get benefit.

Thirty-eight SUV models -- including the Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Chevrolet Suburban 2500, Toyota Land Cruiser, BMW X5, Dodge Durango and the Ford Expedition -- qualify.

The people who use this most are self-employed like Doctors, Accountants, Lawyers etc.

you forgot Pimps.. .unless your etc covered it :D
