SUV Show down

Re: SUV Show down

Faisal, I know you can afford BMW or Lexus but you will buy Pilot...Shart la lo

Re: SUV Show down

im not sure about the 7 seat part ...

bmw's and lexus have old suv's right now .. i like the gx 470 though.. and yes thats 7 seater.

The infiniti fx is nice too if u want something sporty.

Audi is coming out with the Q7 i think later this year or so ..

Re: SUV Show down

I think X5 is one of the best SUV, except its not 7-seater. The '07 X5 is rumored to have 3 rows of seating. In any case, in this instance, I'd like to keep it below $35k, out of door, if possible.

Lexus' GX looks really really weird.

Infinity's FX looks very weird too, plus its not 7 seater.

Audi... hmmm.. again, will be too pricey. And if I wanted an Audi engineered SUV, I could get a Toureg which will be cheaper too. But even Toureg, properly equipped they way I want, pushes past acceptable price range.

Re: SUV Show down

Faisal, here's some of my recommendations
1) Toyota Land Cruiser
2) Lexus RX 330
3) Suzuki XL-70 (less expensive)
4) Honda CRV
5) Mitsubishi Outlander
6) Honda Element

Re: SUV Show down

^ the honda elemet is too boxy...i wonder what they were thinking when they designed it...

Re: SUV Show down

They were thinking “Dorm room on wheels”. The Element was designed with students being the target demographic. Somewhere along the line they didn’t realise that students wouldn’t buy something that looked so incredibly uncool!!! :omg:

Re: SUV Show down

well .. looks to me like its either a nissan , the pilot or the gm vehicles. If i were you i would seriously look at the yukon . And if i dont like it then id go for the pathfinder or the armada. The honda is just too old and common now , the facelift didnt really do much for it.

Re: SUV Show down

When it comes to SUVs, I plan on buying one in a couple of years and have already kinda made up my mind about the Acura MDX. To me it’s the most compelling luxury crossover of the minivan, the wagon and the SUV.

Coming off the Honda Odyssey legacy, MDXs’ cargo capacity is in the top-place among other contenders – also a test drive will convince you of its flawless ergonomics, and a high horsepower Honda mill under the hood.

A couple of years ago, I participated in a marketing case competition for luxury SUVs’, and after our research, we acquiesced that in top place were the Acura MDX and the Lexus RX330 with second place contenders being the Infiniti FX35, and the Volvo XC90, and the Volkswagen Touareg.

Re: SUV Show down

the rdx is coming out pretty soon .. why would anyone go for the mdx right now ?

Re: SUV Show down

^ the RDX was still on the sketchpad when I did my research - its due to come out later this year, and I was talking about first-hand experience with the car in my own test-drives and a study done for a marketing firm.

That being said, I happened to check out the RDX at the autoshow. The RDX will keep the Acura legacy of innovation alive - its going to be the first car to have no windshield wipers, and no side-view mirrors :k:

Yes… I’ll have to check it out before I make my purchase decision when I’m at that stage.

Re: SUV Show down

those are minor details , the side view camera's are being shown on every concept around. Im not sure if they will actually make it to production , as all it will do is hike up the price .

Re: SUV Show down

RDX is gonna be competitor to BMW X3, so its a smaller Sport'ute, compared to MDX, with no third row option.

MDX is very capable, but I had two complaints. First, the looks are very stale, and the car is due for a complete redesign now. Second is the price-value, compared to its cousin Honda Pilot. Yes, if someone wants to stick with luxury brands (Acura, Lexus, Infinity, BMW, Audi etc), then MDX makes a compelling case. However, if you look at price-value, then its a different issue. Many have compared MDX to a van-like look, and while I think that may be a bit unfair, styling is more a eye-of-the-beholder kinda issue.

Re: SUV Show down

Infiniti does not look weird. The FX is awesome. Drives like beauty :)

Re: SUV Show down

^ Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder :-)

Re: SUV Show down

I always thought 'thigh of the beholder'

:p j.k

Re: SUV Show down

Whats with wanting a 7 seater faisal bhai? Nissan Armada! I actually went on a test drive in it, it is a monster.
I'm getting the 06' Nissan Altima, and trading in Honda Accord 00', with all the rebates I'm getting a pretty good deal. Good Luck!

Re: SUV Show down

7 or 8 seater is a must-have requirement. My parents spend part of the year with us and it helps to go around in one car, rather than two. Right now we have a mini-van, and I want to get away from it. Also, I need a 4WD because otherwise whenever we plan ski trips to Lake Tahoe/Reno during winters, we have to rent a 4WD or else use chains, which is a hassle.

Re: SUV Show down

Mahnoor, if you can wait for 7 more months you will have a redesigned new Altima. I saw it in one of the magazine few days ago and it looks eye-catching. The current Altima is not that exciting, specially the tail lights are ugly.

Wait and you will like the new model.

Re: SUV Show down

Due to my current search, I am spending a lot of time on car websites, so here are a few side notes, for anyone who is interested.

For those in the market for a sedan, I think '07 Camry is absolutely beautiful. Check it out.

For those looking for a compact SUV, Mazda has just launched CX-7](http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/mazda/cx7/100692672/specs.html). Its pretty darn cute and pumping 244 hp on 4 cylinders. MSRP is about $25-28k.

Re: SUV Show down

By the way, I don't think there is a large scale redesign of '07 Altima. At least the tail looks very same. They are bringing a hybrid Altima, and thats all the buzz is, basically. Which is interesting, considering they just licensed Toyota's Prius technology, instead of reinventing the wheel, so to speek.
