Susral Genda Phool

What does this song mean? And why the use of Genda (Marigold) specifically?

Re: Susral Genda Phool

It will be interesting to know

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Hoye hoye hoye, Hoye hoye hoye

Saiyaan ched dewe,
(my husband keeps on teasing me)

Nanad chutki leve,
(the younger sister of my husband keeps on taunting me)

Sasural genda phool,
(sasural = in law's house, genda: name of a flower, marigold)
(In Traditional India, Sasural is not a easy place for a married woman, there are lot of boundaries, people and responsibilities. In this song woman says that my Sasural is very good for me like Marigold flower. )

Saas gaari deve,
(the mother of my husband keeps on abusing me)

Dewar samjha deve
(the younger brother of my husband keeps on explaining to me)

Sasural genda phool

Choda babul ka angana
(I had left the house of my father)

Bhaave deraa piya ka, ho
(I am liking the house of my husband)

Saas gaari deve,
Dewar ji samjha leve
Sasural genda phool

Saiyaan hain vypaari
(my husband is a businessman)

Chale hain pardes
(he is going to foreign place)

Sooratiyaan niharun,
(I am looking at his face)

jiyara bhaari hove,
(my heart is becoming heavy)

Sasural genda phool

Saas gaari deve,
Dewarji samjha leve,
Sasural genda phool

Saiyaan ched deve,
Nanad chutki leve,
Sasural genda phool

Choda babul ka angana,
Bhaave deraa piya ka, ho

Bushirt pahine,
(having attired in a shirt)

khaai ke bida paan,
(having chewn a betel)

Poore Raipur se alag hai, Saiyaan ji ki shaan,
(the glory of my husband is apart from that of anyone else is entire
Raipur city)

Sasural genda phool

Saiyaan ched deve
Nanad chutki leve
Sasural genda phool

Saas gaari deve
Dewarji samjha deve
Sasural genda phool

Choda babul ka angana
Bhaave deraa piya ka, ho

Hoye hoye hoye
Hoye hoye hoye

Ohh ohh oho..oho..
Oo ..hey hey…o hey…

Hoye hoye hoye
Hoye hoye hoye

Re: Susral Genda Phool

^^ God darn you are awesome. Good translation

except at one place, dewar samjha deve would translate to that when saas yells at her , her dewar reconciles her.

Moral of the song: even after hardships the lady loves her sasuraal.

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Nice Song…

Awesome translation GDISA! :lajawab:

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Good job at the translation.I like this song. Now it makes more sense...:)

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Thank you GIDSA. What language/dialect is this btw?

Re: Susral Genda Phool

punjabi

Re: Susral Genda Phool

^^ No no.. its bhojpuri

Most of the village type songs in hindi movies are taken from bhojpuri.

Re: Susral Genda Phool

^^^
i thought there was a bit of Awadhi too! i maybe entirely wrong too.

Re: Susral Genda Phool

I think like genda’s petals are close knit but it’s bulb(the part holding it together, if that’s what it’s called?) is quite small and delicate. Even a small shock sets the whole flower apart so metaphorically speaking you can compare the inlaws relationship to that. It’s a close but delicate relationship.:hmmm:

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Someone on the internet said it's Chattisgarh/East Indian dialect, can you confirm this?

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Chattisgarh is centeral India and East India speaks totally alien languages.

BTW i understand chattisgarhi and i can confirm that genda fool is not it.

Re: Susral Genda Phool

So it's Bhojpuri then.

Re: Susral Genda Phool

^ Yes it is bhojpuri hindi. If you watched Big Boss 4 , manoj tiwari speaks in the same dilact and he is from bhojpuri movie industry

Re: Susral Genda Phool

Interesting :k:
