I found the info interesting, related and useful – Being naturally shy I would say I faced more or less the same situation every single day: but in office environment. In some cultures it is disrespectful not to look at the person when he/she is talking to you and they do get genuinely upset. In multicultural multi national – every thing multi I for one could not afford to let this happen on a regular basis and going through a normal day was more than a challenge.
With male senior fellows I worked it out that it’s not un-Islamic just a cultural gesture of respect, with time and experience I learned the same with female office colleagues as well but still in a funny way the guilt was there (I blame the childhood up bringing for this), O my God I am earning so much sin for myself every second of a day just because I had to listen(eye contact) to them (women) for office work... etc etc, but today after reading this I feel much better.
