Re: Surviving as a Muslim on-campus
Very interesting and very comprehensive and sensible answer from SunniPath.com
I know a friend who used to just look away and not respond to "hi" from gals and wud even feel embrassed and guilty afterwards like why can't he just say hello, when all they are doing is to say hello in courtesy. He would recite something or the other all the time and would feel guilty looking up and seeing gals in brief clothing. But later on after help from some friends and talking it all out that there's no harm esp. if his intentions are not bad, he became more comfortable abt this situation.
A guy can probably idetify more abt how they feel. May be too strict of a training at home, or too strong lines of right and wrong, may introduce this kind of guilt attitude. The detailed answer on SunniPath can definitely help those who face such situation and sharing with close friends can also help.

^ I have a one short and one long answer for you, which one would you like?
Re: Surviving as a Muslim on-campus
:)
I found the info interesting, related and useful β Being naturally shy I would say I faced more or less the same situation every single day: but in office environment. In some cultures it is disrespectful not to look at the person when he/she is talking to you and they do get genuinely upset. In multicultural multi national β every thing multi I for one could not afford to let this happen on a regular basis and going through a normal day was more than a challenge.
With male senior fellows I worked it out that itβs not un-Islamic just a cultural gesture of respect, with time and experience I learned the same with female office colleagues as well but still in a funny way the guilt was there (I blame the childhood up bringing for this), O my God I am earning so much sin for myself every second of a day just because I had to listen(eye contact) to them (women) for office work... etc etc, but today after reading this I feel much better.
