What according to you is a ‘reasonable’ budget for
1- A casual shirt
2- A casual dress (3 piece)
3- A semi formal
4- Formal
Re: Survey - Pricing
It depends on the style of stitching, fabric used, accessories and details (embroidery/kaam/laces).

I know that (now) :D but the question was more related to the budget. If I have a budget, I have a budget and won't be willing to spend more than that, don't you agree?
Re: Survey - Pricing
then you should be ready to compromise on quality or quantity :D
Re: Survey - Pricing
quantity of kaam/embroidery/accessories I mean
Re: Survey - Pricing
For custom orders, when I have customers who want to stay in a certain budget, I give them a breakdown of costs and options for fabric(pure/synthetic) , stitching styles and additional embellishments/details so it is for them to decide in the end about the final product.
For ready-to-wear, it is entirely different and you can make goo quality stuff in all price ranges and customers will know that the price in accordance to quality of products is payable.
Re: Survey - Pricing
I understand what you are saying but my question was for an end user, including me and you off course. Reasonable budget for a student might be half of what a working professional would spend on one dress and so on.
Re: Survey - Pricing
For shirt (only) .... no dupatta and trouser ?
Re: Survey - Pricing
Casual i translate as something i will wear at home. Will be replaced in two seasons or may be more. So I would like to spend 1500 .... mind you that is the price i would keep in mind while making a shirt by my self. I have done it and they come out perfect.
casual 3 pcs - 3000
semi formal - depends but I don't have a very huge event in horizon any time soon and if there is i have plenty jaheez and bari things that are not used yet. So I won't spend more than 8000.
formal - 20000 if it is a wedding etc. otherwise no reason for me to spend more than 10,000.
All these prices are what i had targeted during my visit last time. and acheived successfully. I had my brothers wedding too and I did my dresses (copied mostly designers :D and was successful) 20,000 max. One suit went to 24 something as I really like dimontes but i had to pay for it later as they messed up my dupatta and my daughter's gharara. I hated the catchers used for those stones. They should have been glued .... I later had a fight with master sb as that is what i had requested but he ignored that completely.
Re: Survey - Pricing
HI Ed, sitting abroad i have to be honest I dont always understand the cost of cloth, stitching etc but I do realise the days of getting a decent semi formal for 10k is also long gone. What i object to is riduclous over pricing off material that can be purchased quite easily eg. there are a number of vendors based in Karachi selling replica Sana Safinaz Chiffon outfits but the pricing of the same outfits varies hufgely amongst some vendors. !5k is quite reasonable and appears to be the norm but i have seen a couple of FB vendors selling the sam eoutfits for double this price, whilst i realise that people have to make a profit, this is just pure greediness!!!!! Sorry rant over.
Casual shirt: Max 3000
Casual outfit: 4-5000
Semi formal: 15k
Formal: about 22k
again, these may be totally unrealistic prices but thats what I'd feel comfortable paying
Re: Survey - Pricing
Hey ED!
** [1] A Casual Shirt:** 1000-1500 PKR (No more than $15 US)
Casual shirts (linen, cottons, lawns) in my definition are for me to wear at my mosque during religious functions and Ramadan as we go for namaz everyday then, milaads, or for a casual gathering at someones house. I am sometimes willing to pay more for a casual shirts if I really like it but that probably won't go above 2500PKR since I am constantly in need of new casual shirts. I do not wear Pakistani clothing around the house at all, so all of my Pakistani clothing that I order are for occasions, dawats, casual gatherings etc there for can not pay more than that price range. Also when I order casuals, I do it in bulk of atleast 4 or more shirts so thats why it needs to be in a price range where I can order as many possible with all of the added shipping costs taken into account, 10,000-12,000PKR for one order is usually the norm for me for 4-5 shirts at a time.
**
[2] A casual dress (3 piece)**: If I am ordering a full casual suit, unless it is a replica that I really need or like, my ranges are 2000-4000PKR at the most but last year I ordered a replica SS lawn for 6000PKR even though it was a stretch for me but I was happy with it. Otherwise for local brands, I wouldn't want to pay more than 4000 at the most.
** [3] A semi formal**: For a nice semi formal and depending on the event that I need it for I would be willing to pay up to 15,000PKR at the most (shipping included), and sometimes I do not care if it is ready made or not. Fabrics etc don't matter to me as much, as long as it looks nice. I don't need semi formals to to often since those kinds of events pop up here and there and I am never really prepared for them, I'll usually do repeats or something. If I constantly was attending those kinds of events I would probably order more often in the price range of 10,000PKR or lower.
** [4] A Formal:** I usually only need formals for weddings that I know about well in advance so I am willing to plan ahead for an order and stretch the budget to 30,000-45,000PKR if its for a close friend or family event. Otherwise if I was ordering a formal for a community event, or someone I do not know well, I only would stay in the 10,000PKR range. Can not justify ordering a new outfit just to be sitting at a table all evening. If I am not really apart of the wedding I do not order dresses more than 15,000PKR (2000PKR with shipping included at the most if I really like something). Most of my dresses for formals come from catwalk and I usually order for major events from her and that budget can go higher, one because she has been making my clothes every year now so I am comfortable enough with her to pay her asking prices or because I just really like the dresses enough to pay that much and I know I can re-wear it again next year. I don't get the chance to wear nice formals to often either so thats why my budget stretches and its for a family wedding then I do not worry to much about a budget, just about finding something fancy enough.
