Surnames

Any Muslims from Pakistan with these surname please contact me to help me with my research.

Uppal

Gill

Sindhu

Cheema

Malik

Bajwa

Randhawa

Sohail

Or any other Sikh related surnames.

Re: Surnames

The last one Sohail is an Arabic name and refers to a group of stars in our galaxy... Malik too is of Arabic origin but I think it's also an Awan sub-clan.

I've got some relatives who are Bajwa and Cheema, and there's a female Indian singer and a Paki male singer with the surnames Uppal.

These surnames are not Sikh, they existed well before you Guri-ji decided to make Sikhism, Punjabi's and Jatt's and Rajput's existed long before Sikhism and not all of them are Sikh, some Punjabis/Jatts are Muslim, others Hindu and others Sikh..

Learn to differentiate between ethnicity, caste (tribe) and religion..

Re: Surnames

CCB: he/she said "sikh related" names not Sikh names....there are lot of sikhs who have these names and he/she might want to know who else has similar names.

Sohail, she might have misspelled. There no Punjabi tribe name Sohail that I know of..it is Sohal. Sohals are Jatts and can be found in Sikhs and Muslims.

I know for a fact that there are lot of Punjabis form Pakistan with some of the names mentioned in the post but not many will step up to own their ethnicity. But if you some how can relate these names to Arab and central asian clans then they will claim to be ones in droves.:)

Re: Surnames

Gill, Cheema and Malik are very common surnames in Pakistan. I am sure there are people on this site with these surnames :)

Re: Surnames

That’s very true and I agree with you, I’ve said many times before that an Indian Punjabi Jatt Sikh is ethnically no different from a Pakistani Punjabi Jatt Muslim…

It irritates me just as much when Paki Muslim who are not of foreign descent start claiming to be Arabs, Afghans or Iranians… It’s silly because everyone is equal, being Arab descent doesn’t somehow make them superior… If a Punjabi Muslim acknowledges his background but chooses not to give it any importance and would prefer a pan-Pakistani identity for himself then that I respect but claiming some Arab saint or solider drilled his foremother when he never is just… well baygheyrat..
