Surgery and Ramadhan

I have problem during my surgery rotation this month I am with a trauma surgeon and we have to scrub into a case at any odd time sometime this overlaps with iftar and sehri time so last 2 days I missed both at their normal time …what should I do ??
I cannot leave as this guys depends on me for assistance and at odd hours there is no backup
I have an obligation to the patients as well, similarly this is keeping me from fulfilling my obligation to God , is it okay to miss sehri and just do a niyat for a Roza or do Iftar late
thanks

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

you can break it with dua and later when get time go and eat something..

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

^ I do say the dua but is it okay if there is a lagtime between dua and breaking of fast

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

Ask an Alim on this issue.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

u cant even get a sip of water? that should suffice in breaking your fast.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

^I would have to remove my mask I cant do it inside the operating room

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

You can choose not to fast and send the money to edhi center (i don't remember what it is called) but my mother checked with edhi center and they said it is $3.00/fast for the sehri and aftari of one poor person. So you can multiply the # of rozas you have to skip with 3 and send that amount to edhi center. They process it on everyday basis. If you want to send more then $3.00 per roza, it is up to you.

But this can be an alternative.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

Das Reich, By reciting the dua to break the fast is good enough if you absolutely can not go and eat something. There is nothing wrong in this particular situation.

Allah has made religion easy for us. Lets not look complications in it.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

well according to fiqah e jafaria...it does not harm your roza if you can't break it on time

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

He should not skip fasts as he is physically capable.

Das REich, …You should ask your operating team if they are ok with you taking your mask off for a sip away from the patient.
It should not be a big issue. The reason I am saying this is because a friend who had a beard was initially questioned whether he was “OK” for the operating room becuase the mask did not cover his beard, but then they allowed him to cover his beard with an additional piece of covering (scrub cap of something).
Also, you can do what Inedible is saying is that make the “niyah of breaking the fast” dua is not even a must, just make the niyah in your heart that you have broken the fast.
Inshallah I will ask our Imam today for you…
May Allah SWT accept your concern and steadfastness towards his deen!

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

Well they cannot take the mask off or take the gloves off and cannot touch any unsterile thing.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

there are sterile water container available in the hospital....

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

keep a candy and just slip it in your mouth.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

^^they cannot do that kind of stuff when in OT

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

thank you all for your help and suggestions
Aa
I dont work with a team just with one surgeon so surgical assistant is the only other option

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

as sheraz mentioned, according to fiqh jafaria you dont need to break your fast immediately.

Re: Surgery and Ramadhan

ok..but it should not make much of a difference...
if at all get a sterile water sealed container the kind they have in the infants section and take a sip in the corner away from the patient. or like just make the niyaah in the heart.

The fiqh Jafria thing only applies if you are SHia and even to them I would suggest that breaking iftar should not be delayed as the prophet sAW clrealy said that the strength of my ummah lies in eating sehri and breaking fast early...
