Baqarah, in arabic, means ‘ox’. In surah al-baqarah, Allah SWT narrates the incident about the jews, the sons of israel, one of whom had murdered another fellow being. The jews wanted Musa AS to find out who the killer was.
Musa AS asked Allah SWT in return, and Allah SWT told Musa AS to ask his people to sacrifice an ox. The jews, making excuses as always, since their main purpose was to merely tease Musa AS, asked Musa AS to ask Allah SWT what kind of ox they should sacrifice. Allah SWT said for it to be neither too old, nor too young. The jews again asked as to what characteristics it should have. Allah SWT replied through Musa AS that it should have never been used to plow the fields, nor for irrigation. The jews again asked as to what color the ox should have, and Allah SWT replied that it should be yellowish golden in color, pleasing to the eye. To that, the jews finally sacrificed an ox, and Allah SWT told Musa AS to rub a piece of that sacrificed ox on the murdered man himself. As soon as that was done, the dead man woke up, narrated the name of his murderer, and died again.
This was not only a sign of Allah SWT being the one who knows it all, but also a sign of how Allah SWT has the ability to raise the dead, and how He will accomplish it on the Day of judgement, since the jews used to doubt that as well.
