Ever since the exclusion of Shoaib, Asif, & Razzaq from the Pakistani for the World Cup, many Pakistani fans and our captain have not expressed their confidence in their team. There is no doubt Pakistani team is weakened by the exclusion of those 3 players, but we should all support our team like we have in the past.
I feel that the support is not as strong as it was in 2003 or 1999. On paper, the 2003 team was the strongest, with the likes of Anwar, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Inzimam, the Pakistani featured some of the great players of our era, but unfortunatly they didn’t do so well.
The 1992 team on paper didn’t look as impressive, with the exception of Miandad & Wasim Akram, there was no quality player in the side. Imran Khan was way past his prime, Inzimam, Sohail, Aqib, Mushtaq were all young faces in the side. And lets not forget, Pakistan had lost Waqar Younis prior to the start of the tournament, and not many people gave them a chance to go all the way.
One advantage this Pakistani team has had over previous Pakistani teams is that the expectations are not particularly high. So please support your team. One Day is a game of uncertainty, and any team on their given day can beat a stronger team on paper.
I was about to open a thread like this becuase I feel the same as you do. For the last 1 year, Pakistan has been playing ODI's (mostly) without Shoaib and Asif. So I don't beleive that it is a BIG loss. Don't get me wrong, it is a loss, all right , but not a big one. If rRana can get a couple of good overs under his belt, we have umer and Sami. As for Abdur razaq, I'd miss his batting, NOT bowling.
So for me, I 'd fully support Pakistan till the very end. I am sure that they will try their best, as a team, and that's all we can ask for.
