Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

true..

we also need to keep in mind that the idealogy behind this country was, "religion".
Religion has nothing to do with all this mess in PK. This chaos is due to our leadership which has been trying to control us since 1947. and we as a nation are responsible for it.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

No, its because they dont give a crap. Mush is only interested in getting elected from this ASSembly. Come again...

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

support for secularism was always there in pakistan. but people are afraid to say anything to the mullahs, because not only that it could lead to social boycott but also it could lead to death in some instances. we have a silent majority of the people who would like to live peacefully with others. there are others who are skeptic about their religion but wont ask any questions because they are afraid, for most part, of the people who are around them.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

We have tried and failed. Islam as a political force does not work. It ends up making the mass more confused and divided. The reason being lack of knowledge about Islam. Pakistanis themselves are not practicing Muslims. It's time we separate religion and state for the sake of our future.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

I find it hard to believe that secularism is decreasing in Turkey, sorry to say.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Look at Iran, no one there wants to even be Muslim anymore thanks to the theocracy.

Only 3% attend Friday prayers currently in Iran, so much for the “Islamic Revolution”

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Can you elaborate how "Islam" has hindered in the progress of nation? In progress of constitution? In progress of law enforcement? In progress of political development? Just joining a bandwagon "secularism is better" doesn't really do us any good.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Iran and Afghanistan under the Taliban are perfect examples.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

I thought we are discussing Pakistan here.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Not just keep religion away from pollitics and govt - that's not good enough.

There needs to be strict restrictions on who is allowed to preach, what they can preach as islam or whatever, what parts of Q they can interpret how etc. Anyone transgressing with their concept of islam, morals etc will have to be PUNISHED.

All preachers must keep record of who is attending. They must submit complete audit of all funds in public.

I mean, these religiouso are the reason for 99pct of all terrorism and the subsequent war on terror backlash.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

^ Thats the worst theocracy anyone can "suggest".

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

At this point, almost anything seems better then Islamic Emirate of Waziristan.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

secularism - another western figment of imagination.

what is wrong with Iqbal's?

why is there never an effort in creating an original sense of ownership to the isms in Pakistani society? why doe sit have to be always borrowed or received and adopted as is handed down?

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

hahahhahahhahahahah

who is going to impose your proposals ? You and what army ? Frankly 90% of the people on this forum who share your views don't even live in pakistan.

Pakistan is a MUSLIM country. If you don't like it then get lost ( like you have already done) !!!

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

I know what you mean, but then you don't like Punjab either, I understand you will take Punjab over Waziristan anyday but neither Punjab is secular nor Waziristan is Islamic state, really.

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

Punjab is still ten times better then what is happening in Waziristan. Do we hear of weekly beheadings in Punjab?

As bad as the waderas and chaudries are, they pale in comparison to the disaster jihadis would bring to Pakistan. The anti-mush crowd just fails to understand this, when all they have to do is turn their heads and look to Afghanistan and Iraq.

You need to read my full post :-)

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

I did? Full sharia has not been forced on Punjab yet, which alone makes it better then Talibanistan.

This part...

thats what I meant too. I am not suggesting Punjab anything close to "Waziristan", as I referred it more of 'secular' (comparatively speaking), neither "Waziristan" is Islamic rather its blood-thirsty-extremists who are fighting to gain "lost glory" (1995-2001).

Re: Support for secularism growing in Pakistan!

That may be true, but the point of the matter is, the bottom line is Pakistan is one ****ed up nation. It just is. It is unstable, it is filled with illiteracy and poverty, and it is a terrorist haven.

Islam didnt work. Time for Kemal Ataturk to step in.
