Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

ICC to end Supersubs experiment
Cricinfo staff
February 15, 2006

Cricket’s first Supersub last July … but the last one is likely to be next month.
The ICC will recommend the end of the much-criticised Supersubs in one-day cricket as well as the launch of a Twenty20 World Championship when its chief executives meet in Dubai next month. The recommendations came from a meeting of the Chief Executives Committee (CEC).

It’s good to see the supersub rule go and I also feel that Twenty20 world cup will be fun. Hope Gavaskar & Co won’t come up with something else more funny or silly.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

good

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Alongwith ending the Super-sub rule, I was also hoping for them to diminish the Power-Play rule as well. As pointed out before, implementation of such rules (sometimes) forces even the quality spinners to make way for fast bowlers.

*Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in *
Good riddance — Good job

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

This has been deffered to a later meeting.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Thanks GOD!!!!

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

I think supersubs should not have been discontinued but teams should have been allowed to announce supersubs after the toss.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Yep.. :k:

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

oh God. There goes Arshad khan’s world cup place :hehe:

On a seriuos note, I second Ehsan’s comment.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

I think they answered that question in the statement posted on CricInfo. The idea was to encourage teams to play all-rounders. Whereas teams were, in fact, opting for additional specialist players (Arshad Khan being an example). **They didn't want 12 players to do the job of 11 players **so the idea is discontinued. For what its worth. I say, good riddance.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

I think Arshad can still make the team as a good ODI spinner if Pakistan wants to take one specialist spinner to worldcup.. I think he wold be better option than Danish.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Not a big follower of cricket here, so would love an explanation of powerplay and supersub.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Subs was a crap rule.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

So what if the ICC doesnt want subs. Theres always room in my tummy for some.

This message was brought to you by Subway. "Subway, Eat fresh!"

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

I will go one step further…and say that there should be no “pre-designated” supersub before or after the toss.

Both teams should be able to bring in any player outside of the playing eleven as the “supersub” at any stage of the game.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

How about one more step and we play with 12 players and have 13th man as supersub. That will swing the pendulam back in the bowlers' favour.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

^it will not be good idea, don't tell icc about this elsethey will adopt this

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

mums the word... however i was being sarcastic.

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

good :k:

now, take out the power play rule and come out with some rule to favor the bowlers… uhm, something like “for five overs, wickets chor ke kheilo i.e. for five overs stand on the -3rd stump”

Re: Supersubs out — Twenty20 WC in

Super Sub was a stupid rule, it was crazy that ICC implemented it for as long as it did. Most times it was 11 players against 12. The good ol way if playing is fine by me, no need for the fancy stuff. 20-20 is a good introduction and it would should be fun but ODI's should be keft alone and should be played by the old rules.

Although I do like Some1's suggestion of not announcing the super sub and a teamn could replace one player from any of their 14 announced players in the middle of the game. That would make it a little interesting.
