Superstition or not?

If you have bad luck at the beginning of the week, you have it for the rest of the week, if at the beginning of the week you have a good day, the whole week is good. Up to now I’ve noticed it’s true, this week is my bad luck week…
Someone once said that I find it’s true becuase I expect it, I don’t know.

What about this one, yab aankh pharaktee hai, to koi bad_doeaa daita hai?

I don’t believe most superstitions, but I’m not sure about these two.

Re: Superstition or not?

I think superstion helps people in all parts of their lives , when they have important decisions to make or simple things like playing the lottery...its part of our culture. for example
you will have nothing but bad luck on Friday the 13th or if you walk under a ladder, or if a black cat crosses your path... dont bother playing the lottery when these things happen because it means there is something seriously wrong with you, your chakra lines, yin and yang and the cosmos in general.

However if you come across a penny on the street you should pick it up and this will be the start of your good luck, and probably the end of it too because good things happen once and bad things happen in threes, which means that if you fall and break your wrist, its likely that your house will get broken into and youll crash your car too. after that your run of bad luck will end but you'll have a nice long run of depression till your next run of bad luck...

its difficult to say when you will get some good luck without having to waste it picking up lucky pennies....therefore its advisable that you play the lottery at every possible moment, buy the scratch cards and any raffle tickets.
the possiblity of winning is in direct proportion to the amount of luck you have, and as you dont know when you have luck on your side its better to keep playing till you get to that amazing moment when all your lucky stars are together having a party.... the sad thing is that these lucky stars are usually very grumpy individuals and are not very sociable.

therefore you will have to rely on laws of the jungle when trying to outwit the lottery people into thinking you have one.... you should try to buy thousands of lottery scratchcards in one go and one or two of tehm will win you a couple of dollors.

failing that, go for the scientific approach.....
when you gett an itch in your hand that means you will receive some money.... wait for an itch and run buy your ticket and wait...
the only flaw with this is... depending upon which hand itches, you either lose money or gain money
and im afraid i dont know which itch is which!

Re: Superstition or not?

wow, Lazy Daisy, I never heard about those superstitions, I do know the cliché ones about friday the thirteenth. I don't believe in any of those and I don't play lottery, I deliberately walk under the ladders and I still keep walking if I see black cats. :-) the biggest one: number thirteen has a special meaning to me nowadays and that seems to be one of the better things in my life right now. :-)

have you heard the one about broken glass, some people say it brings bad luck, others say it brings good luck, oh well, I guess I shouldn't have to bother when I think about it, most things do bring bad luck to me anyway! :-))

Re: Superstition or not?

do any of you know about the unbroken circle of black to ward off evil eye? I am interested in this...my black anklet broke recently and now I worry that something bad is going to happen...

Re: Superstition or not?

^ yes, your husband will come home sober.

Re: Superstition or not?

i practically grew up on superstitions.....dont cut your nails at night, dont sit outside during maghrib, dont cut air with a scissor cuz it will cause fights at home, dont whistle, dont say the word snake cuz it really will come to you if it hears its name, dont say anything bad about rats cuz they'll harm u if they hear u (huh?!)
i guess they make life interesting.........but they are superstitions.

oh and i luv the one that says that if something bad happens to you twice it will most definitely happen the third time too......usually we believe what we want to believe.....

Re: Superstition or not?

mama you need to tie a black piece of thread around your ankle or wrist , take ordinary cotton thread quadruple it up twist it to form a thick string and tie it around.

I personally dont believe in this...

nevertherless I will await the "this is haram" comments

Re: Superstition or not?

I am very superstitious.. and i believe in all of them.. yeah i heard it as well that if u believe in it.. it will happen.. if u dont believe it wouldnt happen.. am not sure if it true or no :(

Re: Superstition or not?

lol @ daisy

Daisy, do you think we can start a mosquito business? You know.. "if you want your palm to itch just come to us"...

Re: Superstition or not?

Some of the superstitious i believe and are 100% true for me are
1) if ur right hand iches u will get money left lose money.
2) if ur right leg iches u will go somewhere left someone will come
3) If ur right eye (dont know the word but like flies) then good new left means bad news
4) If u are walking and ur feet touches someone else's immediatly shake hands otherwise u guys will fight or argue about something
5) If u want to drink something from someone else's cup or bottle.. try to throw a bit then drink it cause u two will argue or fight
6) if two person are thinking the same thing and suddenly both of them say the word together then touch each other's neck .. cause tumhari muraad puri hogee..
7) if two guys are coming toward u.. un kay beech may say nahi jao.. like wait till they go then walk or walk from their side.. dont walk between them cause u will have bad luck..

There are many more that i believe in.. i will write them later.. :)
i dont know if they are right or wrong but they all works for me :(

Re: Superstition or not?

I've never heard about anklets. Is it something like necklaces for good luck like some people wear?

I know the one about maghrib time, we were always told that children shouldn't be out at that time, it had something to do with jinns I think.

Re: Superstition or not?

Each morning I take the train to go to work downtown. Each morning the same conductor appears on my train. Each morning I show him my ticket. And Each morning he and I say thank you at the same time. Do you think I should try touching his neck tomorrow?

Re: Superstition or not?

Wow, even more I’ve never heard of. Hm, maybe this is the reason of my bad lucks, hahaha

I often have that thing with they eye, number three, pharaktee aankh, I have no idea if it is 100% true and wether a left eye or a right eye is positive or negative, some say there is even a difference in the upper eye lid and the lower eye lid, beats me, but I often have pharaktee huween aankhee and then something really does happen!

Re: Superstition or not?

Lol!

Re: Superstition or not?

i reckon we should ask for fifty % of anywinnings

Re: Superstition or not?

Yep, dont let the black cat cross your path, if it does, youmust wrap it up in cheese and put it in the microwave for 5-10 minutes on high power.

Re: Superstition or not?

NO Kaleem is lying...because he is mocking you.

you put it in the washing machine on full speed

ps, cats are quite hard to catch so try it out on your neighbours cats first!

Re: Superstition or not?

Kaleem, I did that once! That cat tasted like roasted chicken. :-D

LD, I did that once too, but when the cat came out of the washing machine, its hair was so straight, it looked like it had been electrocuted. poor thing

Re: Superstition or not?

^ That is animal abuse, I hope SPCA people get a hold of your animal abusing arse. :)

Re: Superstition or not?

interesting thread. As a kid we were told various superstitions too like don't tell a story during the day time, the people who are coming home will lose their way (??) or something along those lines. As you grow old, I think you realize their stupidity and stop believing in them.
