Sunny side up

Doing a half fry egg , I only used to know one simple way off doing it : Put the egg in a pan with little oil and then wait until it catches shape , then with a spoon slowly start pouring the oils from the side into the center so the yolk will get cooked slightly ..

But In Pakistan I saw ladies do another technique and it was good ! They flip the whole thing after its half done and then let the other side get cooked for a second and flip it back in the plate !

Which technique do you use mostly?

Re: Sunny side up

just the traditional way i use, but i dont put oil little, i put more oil. I have also seen ladies here flipping it, but im very happy with my way of doing

Re: Sunny side up

For hubby I flip because flipping makes yolk half cooked he likes that way for myself I use the first way because I like juicy juicy

Re: Sunny side up

I flip, one of my friends stayed the night and we were making breakfast together in the morning and I saw her basting oil over her egg to cook it. That was the first time I saw anybody make sunnyside up differently. I think using the basting method gives a more runny egg.

Re: Sunny side up

I make it for my daughter daily, and I flip it.It just cooks the yolk perfectly…not runny, not too firm.

Re: Sunny side up

I hate a half fried egg. Just reading this thread makes me wanna throw up :frowning:

okay maybe i shouldn’t have posted :crying: sorry

I flip too for me and son. But hubby likes puree paki zardee so I flip and press on the yolk to cook it completely

Re: Sunny side up

I don’t flip the egg, or even baste it with oil…I don’t even use oil for that matter. Just a nonstick pan and little additional spray of nonstick cooking spray. I just crack the egg in and let it cook/set up. When the whites get a little crispy around the edges, it’s done! I do kind of break up/poke a hole in the liquidy/white part directly around the yoke, to make sure that sets up and cooks.

My husband and kids (as well as myself) all like a runny yoke in a fried egg

Sorry Hadeel… :crying:

My son loves eggs with the yolk a ittle runny. I use the flip method…i’ve never tried the basting method…but i’m gonna try it now cos it sounds easier

Re: Sunny side up

What I do is not exactly basting, however i dont fry egg in very little oil, its always more oil as I have seen my mom doing same way. I like eating runny yolk, in fact all in our family and extended family seriously without any exception like ruuny yolks. What I do is i just drizzle little oil from around frying pan on yolk so that it just gut a pinky colour of outside layer. I have seen ladies here flipping but as i like runny yolk flipping does not go good for me. We were at a friend’s home and were having breakfast and everyone agreed to eat fried egg and when my turn came i said to my friend dont flip my egg and she was like are you sure, i told yes i eat runny yolk and she was like oh Acha!!! only i was eating runny yolk there

Re: Sunny side up

I flip the egg and keep it light (more runny) as well, not more than 3-4 seconds. just to have a cooked surface of yolk. cook in little oil. i love half fry eggs :yummy:

Re: Sunny side up

me too loves runny yoke , but huby is like hadeel :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Sunny side up

We dont eat fried egg much but if I ever fry it, I do the oil pouring method till a thin white layer forms over the yoke

Re: Sunny side up

I don’t cook eggs my husband does, as for some reason I can’t get them right (give me a biryani or korma to cook anytime). I like my eggs sunny side up - runny yoke but NO crispy edges at all. Sometimes he bastes, sometimes he flips, either was its perfection

Before I got married my dad cooked my eggs, he bastes in a lot of oil.

Re: Sunny side up

I don’t like sunny side up eggs :frowning: But if I ever have them…they need to be super crispyyyyy and the yolk runny.

Do I know how to achieve this perfect balance of crispy and moist?

Nope…but my mom does.

Flipping is turning your egg into over easy or over medium egg. It’s no longer sunny side up egg.

CB, recently learned from my wife and also what they do in restaurants is keep the heat low and put a lid on top of your pan. While oil is cooking the bottom side, heat locked under the lid is going to cook the top without hiding the yolk under a white layer, so leaving your egg sunny side up.

Re: Sunny side up

Am I the only one not a fan of having eggs? i mean a lot of things have eggs in them…I just don’t like have having eggs alone:/Never tell my dad that,he will make sure I eat it everyday smh.

Re: Sunny side up

I flip my egg…even though it is technically incorrect to call it a half fried egg, that is the only name it goes by in our household

Re: Sunny side up

TLK, that sounds like a super technique .. Gonna try it soon ..
