Sunday School-Islamic Studies- Need Ideas!

I need some help with syllabus and text book recommendations for Sunday school children age 4-10 for Islamic Studies.

I am thinking about starting with five pillars of islam followed by daily prayers, wudu, ramadan, and Eid. We dont have any fixed syllabus or text book for the children. I dont think we are going to ask parents to buy books either since this is all volunteer work for a very small Muslim community where mostly parents are student themselves.. I am thinking about buying textbooks for my class (I have about 10 kids) but I need recommendations on good text books for small chilrdren.

So far, I have found this http://www.soundvision.com/shop/pview.asp?item=4149-024 it looks promising and pretty much what I am looking for but I am exploring other options. Please share especially if your kids are going to Sunday school, what does their text book look like?!?! or if you will be kind enough to share the islamic studies syllabus just to give me some ideas.

Thank you so much!

Thanks SaNafooz.. I did some more research online and ended up ordering the book that I shared in my first post as well as bunch of these workbooks for level 1 and 2

*(I Love Islam Workbook/Worksheets: Level 1: Aimen Ansari, Nabil Sadoun, Ed.D and Majida Yousef: 9781933301259: Noorart)

I liked the sample pages for both and looks like my littlle ones would like these workbooks and learn quite a lot inshaAllah.*

Gemini has already recommended the site that I often use......Noorart.
They have great CDs as well.

Re: Sunday School-Islamic Studies- Need Ideas!

salaam,

I teach children of 5-7 years of age at the local masjid. Basically introducing islam and its key concepts, the five pillars etc. My students are obviously quite young and therefore I have to use a very simple format of delievering the material. We follow the ‘Tasheel’ syllabus which is really good because they have a specific set of syllabus aimed at the the various age groups. You can buy them from here: Islamic Goods Direct

Also, I like to use Taleemul Haq which is quite general in terms of the subject but gives detailed information of how to perform wudu, salaah etc. it has illustrations and exercises to follow. Here is a link to an online version: www.darululoom-irving.com - Taleem-ul-Haq (Teachings of Islam)

Apart from this we have regular classes on the seerah of the prophet SAW , stories of other prophets and the sahabah RA etc.

Hope that helps &

good luck!
