Sunday school experiences

Im sure like my parents, all of you were also dragged to Sunday/Friday/Islamic school. My question is how did you feel about it? Did u ever learn anything? Are you involved there now?

For me: It was pointless. A place where i found most of my desi friends. I thought my Sundays were wasted other than the fact that i got to socialize. We never payed attention and the “teachers” did not have much control. An Arabic Sunday school a couple miles away from us was way more organized and effective. So it definitely varies..

I got myself outta there as soon as possible. We had many “maadrun” aunties and some just had a room where they sat and gossiped while children “learned”

There were teachers who tried but it rarely worked. At the end of every year they held a graduation ceremony where they gave out 3 trophies to each grade level. Many parents just wanted to be able to show them off. Ofcourse we often cheated. My friends used to hold the books in their laps:D

So looking back, what can i recall? yea i did not learn much…I think a bigger effort needs to come from parents and within, something that has to be instilled through the environment in your household.

Re: Sunday school experiences

Best sunday/friday schools are found at home.

It would be much helpful and appreciated if you come up with some ideas to improve things. You have the first hand experience so go ahead and suggest what need to be different.
I am sure somewhere down the line you will have kids and would like to send them to a better place then you went to.
