So i decided to make ti a weekly thing for me and my parents, just the three of us, no xtra relatives or whatever, to go out to dinner someplace nice once a week, for the rest of the time we’re here.. im gnna give my restaurant reviews, ure welcome to post about any places you’ve tried in Lahore as well as recommend some places
Last week we went to Mirchi’s this place on M.M. Alam road; We’d gone there last time I was here, in jan 2005, and we’d had a gud experience. We sat outside in the outdoor cafe, it was pretty neat..we sat down at this table in which was lopsided..I ordered the sesame chicken appetizers, cheeseburger that came wiht fries n a salad and chicken corn soup for me and my dad to share.. my parents ordered a plate of mutton boti with naan and raita on teh side.. The cheeseburger was crap, Liberty burger would have been better and a lot cheaper..the fries were just a few long wedges of potatoes, and the “salad” was a spoonful of mediocre coleslaw.. the soup was very thin, it wasn’t thick at all nor was it very tasty, it was rather bland.. the sesame chicken was okay tho.. and the worst, was the mutton..it was undercooked but for some reason my mom wudnt send it back.. my dad ended up eating all of it and ammi ended up eating her nan with the raita and commented that our driver and nokar were fed better than us tonight.. our waiter was nearby and herd her, and she repeated what she said to him so all in all, it wasn’t that great.
Last night we went to Nando’s, also on MM alam road.. The decor was a plus, it wasnt’ too crowded but it wasn’t too empty either.. i ordered the half-chicken meal that came with two sides. For the sides I chose fries and the Peri rice. The three of us shared the meal, with lemonade for me and chai for my parents.. THe rice was spicy and they were kinda stingy with the fries (is it a common thing among these places ? ). But the chicken made up for that The lemonade went well with the chicken; your’e allowed to choose how spicy you want the chicken, from four levels of “peri-peri”, lemon-herb for the weak , mildly spicy, spicy and xtra xtra mirchi n i chose the first.. The waiters were quick and polite and we had a gud table..
What i found interesting were the six placemats on our table.. each had the whole history of “Nando’s” written down.. my dad asked me to read what was written on it coz he hadnt brought his glasses.. supposedly the logo for nando’s (which originated in Johannesburg) comes from an old myth/legend that tells the story of a pilgrim who was passing through and was accused of theft.. brought before the judge, he started to pray and the judge was abt to have his dinner and the guy cried out “if i am guilty, that chicken will come alive!” and so the chicken came alive, proving his innocense.. so basically the kukri logo for Nando’s is a sign of justice and equality and blahblahbalh.. Now, the real story (according to my dad anyway), is that Nando sold nan-kababs in karachi.. lol either way, it was gud food :k:
You should try salt n pepper, its on the other side of liberty. Their handi is pretty good , so is their black pepper steak. Salt n pepper village , which i am sure u have been to. But if u havent u should . Freddy's has good steaks too , nice place to eat at . Zouk or zook , dont know how to spell it ... thats pretty good too . Good pasta , and the wings are really good ! . There is another place in main market which is good for snacks . Also Copper kettle has the best chocolate cake . I dont know what its called but its pretty good . You should try some of the places in Y- block defense , right next to pizza hut . Never been there myself , but they look like they might be a nice place to eat at.
Hmm, yeah imy mom wants to go to salt n pepper/village.. i wanna go ta place that offers paki and non-paki food, coz my mom eats only paki stuff, i eat only non-desi stuff from outside n y dads open to both.. i wanna try freddy’s , ive never had steak Never herd of zouk though..
sara i think its so cute what you are doing - you are getting to know your parents alittle more and i am sure you will remember this forever. Hey you can even tell stories to your kidies *grin
Sara, definitely visit Village. We had a blast there! They have desi and non-desi food and you can eat as much as you like (so no more stingyness with fries) :D
Oh and don't forget to have a yummy kulfi afterwards :-)
I can still feel the divine taste of Copper Kettle's famous Caked Alaska, even though I haven't tasted it for many many years. No one makes Caked Alaska like they did. Not sure about now.
Technically, Caked Alaska is vanilla ice cream scoops, placed between hot chocolate cake/brownie and topped with Chocolate sauce. The trick is to make sure there is appropriate balance between the sweetness of Vanilla ice cream and the bitterness of the chocolate cake. One order usually serves two people, unless you are very very hungry.
I don’t know where is it now, or even if its there at all. I haven’t been back to Lahore in the last three years. However, it used to be in the basement of Empire center on Gulberg Main Bulevard.
^^ yeah its in the Empire center. You can also go to Hob Knob in Defence near LUMS, they're one and the same thing but the rates are bit high.
Try Picasso too, its opposite to Generation boutique. CK ke sath se road ander jati hey towards mens store , generation n maria b. Different style ka restaurant hey,try it.
hey is food street in lahore too? i went to one in islamabad but couldnt get a seat...it was friggin crowded so i ended up having a bun kabab and coke from a street vendor. i prefer street foods in pakitsan...esp in karachi where u get to sit outside and eat chicken broast and bun kababs and chaat.
