Firstly, I’m a new ‘subscriber’ to GS (tho I’ve been following for a bit here and there recently), so I’d like to start off by thanking all of you who are so amazing and generous about sharing all your tips and tricks with a pool of friends and strangers alike. I’m hoping you can help me out a bit with a little issue of my own here:
Well, two summers ago I had a job that required field work in blazing hot sun. Needless to say I got a really bad sunburn and tan. The tan is still around, mostly visible on my face, neck, arms and feet. I know many tips have been added before for getting rid of tans, so that’s not the immediate concern [tho if you’d like to mention new remedies, please do :)]. My feet are! aargh, so in addition to the overall tan on my feet [literally, its like 3 shades darker right from my ankle onwards…], i’ve also noticed that my toes now have strange brown spotting as well…idk how to explain it, it’s nothing that looks like a disease…haha..yikes…i hope not. basically, it’s discoloration in spots, which is becoming an eye soar. ugh.
How can I get rid of these spots, esp since these appear a bit more intense than a regular tan? PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT looking for, or subscribe to, the bleaching creams or dangerous chemicals solution, so please suggest other ways I can lessen the visibility of these spots. Basically, I want to find healthy remedies for restoring my complexion to my natural color. Thanks in advance!
Welcome to gs :). Apply multani mitti (fuller's earth) or ubtan. During mid summers one of arms tanned badly due to exposure to the sun, it could easily be distinguished from my other arm..jeez i was annoyed by that. So i stared using multani mitti and ubtan, they're natural and have no side effects, and they really helped with the tan.I mix them with water and form a thick paste and apply. Let the mixture dry and wash off. Hope they work for you as well. Goodluck
a new guppie, welcome! first of all, just to prevent it from getting worse, try to wear clogs or mules in the sun…something that covers the whole front of your foot.
i would recommend using something to get rid of dead skin first, something like this:
maybe the stridex pads would work on the top of your feet and you could cover that with lotion?
i dont know about whether this would work on the feet, but Shiseido White Lucent line sure does work on the face. their brightening serum is really expensive, so you could always get a sample of it from sephora first. however, maybe you could try a cheaper brightening serum. there are lots of brands out there.
Thanks for your speedy responses gals :) A few follow ups:
Slackira: great news! I just found some fuller's earth my mom had bought a while back...2 years ago i think. Do you think it's still safe to use, or should I get a fresh pack? And, is it available at a drugstore/desi shop?
Fasaadi: I've read the shiseido thread and was keen on getting a sample next time I visit Sephora. I'll definitely save some and try on feet and let you know how it works :)
Chanda_kh: this sounds promising, but where would I be able to get amlactin (what is it btw?, haha) and glycolic lotion? thanks so much!!
try lemon....add the juice of a full lemon to a tablespoon or two of oatmeal or other granular substance that will exfoliate........or simply add it to besan (chick pea flour).......with a teaspoon of rose water and rub, rub, rub on your feet.
apply twice a week and you should see a difference after two weeks.
In pakistan fuller's earth is available in its natural form so we can use it even if its very old. but since you're in the states and its available in packs, i'd suggest get a fresh pack from amazon. it's available there.
