it is called surma … maybe some ppl call it sulma?

Could someone please explain what Surma is? I've heard the name before but can't remember what it is.

The normal Surma is fine black powder, that is applied on the inside of the eyelids.

I've also heard that its good for the eyes, but if its really proven can't say. Maybe its only sales tactic.

There is also a white Surma, looks like fine salt, suppose to clean your eyes, it gives a teary & buring feeling to your eyes, just like as if you were cutting onions.

my mistake it should have been surma ... thats what i know too SaadiaB is surma really good for your eyes ... hmm maybe it is sales tactic ... khair thanks for the input guppies ... :-)

surma yaar not sulma :)

**I was searching the web for the benefits of surma and look what I’ve just found out … Surma can be dangerous for your baby!! **

Use of Kajal and Surma -
Kajal is supposed to protect the child from evil, and is also supposed to make the baby’s eyes look large and beautiful.

Kajal causes eye allergies and infection.
Surma has a high content of lead sulphide, and can cause lead poisoning.

q If you use surma on your child’s eyes, is it one of the safe, lead-free brands? Talk to your pharmacist. Some surma can be dangerous

first time in this forum

I heard from my elders (mom, grandma etc) that Hazra Moosa :as: used to talk to Allah on a mountain called “Jabl-e-Noor” and one day he wished to See Allah. When Allah only removed one of the curtains he’s sitting behind, the mountain was exposed to Noor of Allah, and the mountain couldn’t resist the power and Noor of Allah, it burned and turned into black coal. On the other hand Hazrat moosa :as: became unconcious for several days. But that’s the mountain where we get the surma from. Don’t have any source for it and don’t even know whether it’s true or it’s just a myth. But it’s sunnah of Hazrat Mohammad :saw: to use it. I use it on weekends

if any questions or comments, please pm me as there’s no chance i’ll be checking this thread again :stuck_out_tongue:

wow ... didn't knew there was a story behind it .... thanks for the input .... really appreciate it .. thanks ... :-)
