Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

ok... recipe time

6 to 9 months... these recipes have been tried and tested by me, and are from a cook book we get here in denmark when our babies enter the eating age (4 months).. the recipes are by trained nurses that visit mothers and help them from the time a baby is born till the day they turn 3 and guide them with general well being of a child which includes eating.

p.s)i will add more as i get the time... a)my son is a menace that hates teh laptop and shuts it down everytime he sees me on it and b) i have to translate from danish to english which is torture in itself :D
so please bear with me :)

oh and the meals will make quite a bit.. so only put so much in the feeding bowl that the baby can eat.. rest you can freeze.. all these recipes you can freeze . i cut down on recipe sizes once i found out what my baby's appetite was.. now i cook for 2 days...

Mild Lentil Pure

(good source of fiber and iron)

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil (though i use 1 tsp butter)
1 small carrot (chop into itsy bitsy pcs, or larger, depending on how well your baby can swallow chunks)
1 stick celery (i replace this with sqaush, unpeeled) chop into fine slices or chop even
50 g red lentils
2 pods of garlic (leave whole)
1/2 inch garlic (leave whole)
some milk that your child drinks (this is only for the end to thin out the paste)

How to Make

Warm up a saucepan with the oil

add carrot and celery (or the squash) and saute for 10 mins
add the lentils and 3 measuring cups of water along with the garlic and ginger.
cook on low heat until lentils are soft as mush.
take out the garlic and ginger and throw away
now cook the mixture until you have the required consistency that is ok for your baby to eat..
take off of stove
puree with hand blender. Or not if you think your baby can handle the chunks of veggies and the lentils. If the mixture is too thick, you can add boiled water to thin it out or the milk that your baby drinks (bm or formula)

i also add salt cuz my son has always been desi from teh get go. a teeny tiny bit does not hurt.

instead of cooking this in plain water, you can always cook it in chicken broth... just boil some chicken in water with onions, the entire whole garam masala, ginger and garlic... throw away all that after boiling... sieve the chicken, break it into pcs and freeze for later use and freeze the stock in batches ...

to this recipe.. i sometimes add rice (to make it a fuller meal when your baby is older like 8 to 9 months), and change the veggies around.. you can add anything you want.. even meats to it

Chicken and Apple with CousCous

it sounds disgusting, but honestly, its yum!

2 small chicken breasts without skin, chopped into little pcs (initially, when my son was 6-8 months, i just used minced meat for both chicken and beef)
2 small red apples skinned and deseeded.
5 cups unsweetened apple juice
2 tbsp couscous (preboiled)

How to Make

put chicken, apple and applejuice in a pot and let it simmer on low heat for 10 mins or until the chicken is totally tender.

take off of stove, add the couscous and blend until the right consistency for your baby... some babies can eat this as is.. some cant. you decide what's right for yours. if its too thick, remmeber, u can always add water or wahtever milk your baby is drinking.

Pure of Parsley with Fish and Cheese

150 gm potatoes, skinned and chopped finely
150 gm cod or tuna or whatever fish you want, without skin or bones, chopped finely
3 black pepper whole
1 bay leaf (tez patha)
1 stick fresh parsley chopped
1 cup milk that your child drinks
50 gm milk shredded cheeder cheese
25 gm unsalted butter

Put the potatoes in a deep pan with boiling water and cook until mush

meanwhile, put fish in another pan with peppercorn, bay leaf and parsely. put in milk and cook for 5 mins.
throw away the bay leaf, parsely and peppercorn

throw away water from the potatoes and blend them alongwith the fish and milk, cheese and add the butter to the end result. if its too thick, add more milk.

just remembered.. if your baby is only 6 months, and in most countries taht is when they have just started to eat solids, this may be too advanced.

if you are just starting off.. you can offer her puree of any veggy and fruit and even mix these 2 up. give each ingredient for 3 days to rule out allergies.

off the top of my head, you can offer your 6 month old kichri, porridge of many diff kinds, both in sweet form, or savory, in milk or water or broth.

shall post more recipes soon.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

nopes u cant.... absolute minimum is from 7 months... i started at that.. but not a whole egg.. just a lick off of a fingertip. proper proper egg eating with full egg i started at ... 9 months i think...

but ya... i would wait until 9 months cuz like dairy, its just something your baby could be allergic to.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

ok.
Hey @ seher thanx 4 the links :-).
@ khawateen thanx dear. How old is ur son now ?

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

mashallah 17 months… next week he will be 18 months or lets be more daring and call it a yr and a half… :crying:

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

ok MashALLAH. And what about giving Dahi ( yogurt ) to the infant ?

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

My doc said to wait until 1 yr for dairy. Most US docs say that. In general it is best to wait until 8-10 months.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

ya... 8 to 10 months... all dairy stuff ... starts at that point... its not somethign aboslutely necessary and milk offers the same stuff that yoghurt does... so not like you are missing out on anything... i think i started at 9 months with a tbsp... and then i would puree fruit and add it to the yoghurt like a sad little smoothie.. cuz i didnt want to give him the store bought fruit yoghurts, even the ones aimed at toddlers. way too much sugar. i still dont give him fruit yoghurt from outside.

oh and never give it cold unless its hell hot summer. i always leave it out to reach room temp and then give it.. or warm it in the micro.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

Why not cold, khawa?

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

what is up with the double posting man!

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

dairy products direct from the fridge tends to build up on phlegm. and its way too cold for a baby or toddler to have anything directly from the fridge to drink or to eat... other than those teething gel thingies.

ive always wanted to check up on this though.... this info is from my own parents and other buzurgs... that diary products especially should not be had very cold due to phlegm buildup... ive tried to look up on this but really cant find any scientific proof.... the only thing would be to try and test on teh kid :D i dont dare to.. hehe...

but other than parental advice from my own folks.. and the nurse' (danish woman but also advised against feeding anything at fridge temperature to a baby or toddler especialy juices or dairy products) was enough reason for me to not give it to my son.

oh and i just rembered... the nurse also said its harder to digest cold items meaning you burn more calories ... so you dont want your baby to burn unnneccesary calories trying to digest cold milk... it should be the other way around... working towards keeping your baby full

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

wowwww khawa ure pretty informed!!! IA i will also give room temp juice or yogurt to my baby when shes old enuff. thnx for the info

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

mall... the best advice you can get is from your baby's dr... you live in the middle east dont you? drs there, especially peds are really good with this kinda stuff... the do's and the dont's..... info i give is according to my child that is born in a different kind of climate than yours... its always good to ask others for their experience but keep in mind... my polar born baby will have diff prefrences for its food and what i give to him than what your desert born child will want... for instance you can eat ghee in a hot climate country cuz you will burn it off fast... the heat will make sure you do... but try eating ghee in denmark and you will give yourself a heart attack ... etc etc.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

yes ure rite! i will def keep in mind the climate here.... but i tink most ppl give cold items like yogurt and milk and all from the fridge directly rather than waitin for it to b of room temp.

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

you are right.. they do... but again... liek i said... its dependant on where you are living... here.. its already freezing cold so the nurses advise against giving liquids or dairy directly from the fridge... but in arabia.. i would cuz its so hot...

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

i usually at least get things luke warm or room temp

Re: SUJI RECIPIE NEEDED FOR 6 MONTHS OLD BABY.

So can you give suji kheer to your baby every day?
