Hi all,
So I got this 3 lara rani har as a gift sometime ago and I had kept it for my wedding. Its not the typical 3 lara haar with single strands and dainty pendants, the first two pendants are small but the last one is pretty big and round, and there are multiple strands of pearls with each.
This necklace very closely resembles the one I have:
the differences in this one and mine are:
a) mine does not have any green its only a few red stones and pearl strands
b) the tiny dangling beads at the bottom are pearls in mine, though Im thinking of getting them changed into red beads. (should I?)
I need suggestions on:
what kind of neckline and kaam would look good with it? I’ve always seen rani haars/3,5,7 lara haars on a round neckline, would it look good on a V-neckline? I was initially going for a heavy worked shirt full of kaam with jamawar lehnga, but I think the necklace would clash with a neckline full of work. So what should I do, I haven’t ordered my outfit yet and I want something that goes with the jewelry.
This is what I really like:
I wanted a white top with this design, but Im not sure now if this will clash with my necklace :S
I dont like the earrings that come with it, what kind of earrings would look nice with it?
I was thinking the 3-lara is looking good by itself but my sister is of the opinion that I should have a choker with it or else it would look really…empty-ish around the neck for a bride. So what kind of choker should I get with it so that it doesn’t look overboard. Im afraid a choker might clash because the pendant is quite large.
I want to wear a mathapatti and nath too, the mathapatti looks gorgeous with a layered haars but Im not sure of all three plus a choker, would that be like too much jewelry? Should I stick to teeka jhoomer and nath?
Should I get the necklace modified, remove the smaller two strands and make a single layer rani haar and wear it with a choker?
Should I just keep the 3-layered on to wear with my black sari and get something else for bridal?
Overall I’m going for more of a traditional look on the wedding day.
Too many questions! But I hope all of you will be able to advice me and help me out in deciding
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
Congrats on your wedding! Your jewelry sounds beautiful mashallah. I don’t think you need to get the small beads changed unless they are really bothering you. Most likely noone will notice. I don’t think there is any problem w/you wearing your lara haar with the shirt style in the pic. I do, however, think that you should have the top “jacket” section a darker color like in the pic, to get a good contrast with the pearl chains. And the rest of the shirt can stay white because your pendants will still be prominent on white fabric.
Earrings- I don’t know what styles you like, so it’s hard to suggest replacements, but earrings don’t show as prominently if you are planning on having your dupatta on your head, so you may be able to keep yours as is.
I do agree with your sister about the choker, but my advice is keep it very very small. No full-on bridal set necklaces. But I think if you wore a different choker (not one made from your haar) it would be a nice subtle contrast. Not to matchy-matchy.
Mathapatti is personal preference, some ppl like it, others don’t. I have seen some brides do it right, and I’ve seen others look OTT, so again I would say if you spring for the matha patti, just keep it very simplistic. You don’t want yourself to drown in your jewelry. You want to WEAR it.
I understand how important all the details are to you, but honestly, I don’t think you need to make modifications to your jewelry. These lara haars are precious commodities! I wish I had one
It sounds like you have a beautiful sense of style, and I’m sure everything will come together in the end. Prayers for your happiness! Good luck
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
Aww…thanks muslimah118 <3
Yeah you’re right the top should be dark otherwise the pearls won’t stand out as much. Actually I wanted a little bit of white in my dress and more of red and if I make the top red and the rest of the shirt and sleeves white, thats going to be a lot of white lol. Maybe I should get a red and black too like the picture
Earrings- I like just about all kinds, and I’m not sure what suit my face shape (ovalish diamond) best. The ones with it are too small. I think I’ll ask the jeweler for suggestion he might be able to suggest something appropriate that will go with both the lara haar and the choker, both.
I love mathapattis, I even love mathapattis with nath, but a layered haar and a choker and a mathapatti and then a nath too…so I’m getting confused if that will be too much and if yes then which one should I drop: the matha patti and go for teeka jhoomer nath instead or keep the mathapatti and drop the nath instead. You’re right I dont want to drown in my jewelry lol
You’re so right it is a precious thing and since it is a gift with so much love it is even more precious for me <3 and it has come from India, I’ve been keeping it for more than three years now to wear on a special occasion and when I got engaged I decided I will keep it for my wedding inshaAllah So it is done that I wont be modifying my set, I’ll just go with what looks best with it inshaAllah! And I wish I could gift you one
Aww thanks my family thinks Im too picky and bother too much about unnecessary details lol
Yes everything will come together in the end as Allah wills and it will always be good inshaAllah
Once again thank you so much, for reading and replying so thoroughly and for your sincere prayers
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
if you wear it like a choker it might turn out like this, do do the matta patti .. wedding day is the day for too much jewelry you don’t want some one lse wearing more than you.. if you know what i mean…
get these hand things made and add pearl extensions to the earrings.. they could be bigger.. sorry this one doesnt help in the neck line.. but keep it traditional not modern since the jewelry is very ethnic / traditional
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
thanks for that hin! She’s not looking very overboard even with so much heavy jewelry, I think I can manage a nath with all that too if I keep it simple and I’ll be going for a simpler mathapatti too. Yeah I totally know what you mean lol, but then, the bride is a bride and no matter how much the others are wearing they cant outshine the bride IMO
And it does help in the neckline too, you see I think a V-neckline would go perfectly with that…Imagine that sari border on the other side too and we’ve got a V-neckline.
So do you think going for a bodice shape which i posted earlier (the red and black one) would be too modern with this jewelry?
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
You are so sweet. Also, I just remembered that you can take your earrings to a jeweler and get them to add pieces to elongate your earrings.
Actually they're already long-ish type, lol. But that's a good idea, I'll still take them along in case the jeweler has a good suggestion, you never know :)

I don't think so.. the bodice style is a sort of peshwas style shirt.. which is traditional.. i agree with a V neck line..it also has to do a lot with your face shape and body type.. do try this neckline and ask your friends for feed back.. after all the whole outfit jewlery and singhar should make you stand out --- not the other way.. so go for what looks best on you...which is in most cases what we fall for while shopping.. i hope i make sense..
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
About the neckline, why don’t you try both V or round neckline and see for yourself? I personally think round looks good with everyone but you might even pull off the V depending on your face and body.
If you don’t like them, get them changed or altered. Altered would be a better option. But do it at the end, so you can check how the originals go with the whole look and how can they be changed.
Nah the choker won’t clash. I love love love chokers and lari wala haars together on brides, plus you can wear them separately later.
Why don’t you try a matha patti that’s one sided. It might let you get the lighter look that you are looking for. I am not much into naths though. That is all up to the face.
Nope. The 3 layered is good for the wedding. You can rethink that later though.
I won’t suggest that. Until you are so filthy rich that you somehow want to spend the money.
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
Yes hin you do make sense I have to come up with a good color combination that is dark for the bodice now because my mom just ownt let me ge black :sigh:
V neckline looks good on me, i have a neutral kinda face shape lol i can pull of just about everything Alhamdulillah.
I think I’ll get the earrings to match with the choker instead of getting these altered.
One-sided nath, thats an excellent idea blackdiamond, I might try that..
Oh no I dont want to alter it for later, it looks so perfect on the black sari as it is
thank you blackdiamond dood luck to you too
Would this kind of choker look good with the lara haar or is it too heavy?
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
That is more of a walima look. Light for a baraat.
Wese I was thinking of another idea, what about a high neck line with heavy kaam. That can make up for the choker and the sheer part below that looks good too. Something like this
U can keep the kaam on the bodice lighter and heavier on the bottom.
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
if you're wearing that haar, keep the kaam on your shirt minimal and delicate. otherwise, your haar will get lost on the shirt and its going to look like a hot mess.
i know its a big trend these days to keep layering but wtf is the point? you should wear less but wear it so that it stands out and can be appreciated as part of your whole outfit. build a look, not just pile on separate pieces of everything you own all at once and call it a day.
hair, makeup, dupatta, kaam, jewellery, neckline - coordinate it all!
Re: suggestions for jewelry and dress to go with a 3 lara haar
make the dupatta border more substantial. there isn’t any kaam on this one. and the neckline can have a small line of delicate kaam- it doesn’t have to be totally plain. you can also do a contrast coloured dupatta to add some oomph to this particular outfit. it would make it more traditional bridal for sure.
