I have seen on many BBs that they allow members to upload their fav. pictures as their avatars, of course under certain regulations and what Mr. & Mrs. Custom does on those BB is to make sure that the decency level has been maintained and no offensive pictures are attached.
Thus, it reduces the work load of Mr. & Mrs. Custom such as receiving images, reducing em to specific size and paying Microsoft for extended hotmail account because of attachments. Cause its is all done by members.

With small discussion boards this thing will work fine. With such a huge and diversified membership as GUPSHUP has, to manage the process by exception, will be an aesthetic nightmare. We even have trouble trying to make sure that members keep their "Signatures" within certain norms. We have experimented with loads of features like this, but have to gradually take some of them back. Font size for posts was one example. We offered it in this new version, but due to excessive misuse by a large number of members, and complaints, the feature for font size was removed.
To manage the custom avatar and title process through Mr Custom is certainly extra work for the Administration, but we deem it necessary to make sure that all members have an enjoyable and pleasant GUPSHUP experience.

Ok Faisal Thanks for your reply but here's my shot back at you. You have mentioned huge and diversified membership, that’s really great. But your point has strengthened and proven my idea that Administration should look into the possibility of minimizing their workload rather than increasing it. Avatar is just one example, if you think they (members) will change it (AVATARs) everyday then put a limit to it like 30 days or 90 days or may be never.
As you mentioned that you even have trouble maintaining “signatures” well again if you allow member to view or not to view the siglets of other members that will solve the problem as well. After all you let your members customize their siglets. I have an example of this NOS (drag racing) forum where members can upload specific size of pic as siglets but the karta dharta of that BB has given an option to all the members in their profile whether to see other members siglets or not and also they have limited members to change their siglet once every two/three months depending on the extent of their membership.
Anyway, what my point is saving time is like saving money and Mr./Mrs.Custom have the option to do that regardless of how many members they have to deal with.
All above points are just one time deal and that’s it. I think pleasant GUPSHUP experience can be enjoyed when the administration has to do less work and members…lots of flooding.

How does file size issue cope with animation? Too much animation is distracting.

I'll give you an example, we have requested people NOT to use IMG tags many many times. Do they stop nOOoo. This dude, few days ago, was hosting images on his server, using img tags on gupshup and then deleting images from his server. go figure.

The idea of a web form is interesting, which once approved will automatically update the custom title/avatar of the member. Though it will take a bit of programming for our techies to accomplish that. And it is a matter of prioritizing for them . I am not sure how much workload is there for Mr. Custom, but I am assuming its not so much to warrant all that development effort. This assumption can change in future, so this suggestion will come in handy.
