I was wondering if we can add a feature like a shoutbox or something similiar, where registered and logged in members can leave quick messages/alerts/etc. It works sort of like a ticker, irrespective of which section it belongs to.
Example: *Pakistan Budget’s being presented today. Instead of me opening a thread to ask/tell people it’s being telecasted, i can just post a quick shoutout and members who may not know about it can then tune in to watch it. And then open a proper thread in respective subforum to discuss it.
OR
If EMM was around, i could leave a short, sweet and to-the-point message like ‘Quick come to chat’
*
Just an idea…I don’t know what the complications for this maybe or whether and if it hampers the resources.
So, there are no similar concerns for this idea as there were for group forums?:)
People will end up shouting to each other instead of clicking on a thread or a forum and it will dilute the respective forums? hmmm hmmm?
What's Gupshup for then? More importantly, why do we have PM system..?? If we are going to shout to one person, why do it in public and create a scene when others are not concerned? What could be the reasons?
may be there are better reasons which people do not know... list all of them so we can see it more honestly and give our suggestions thereafter.
Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. It was just a suggestion. It is NOT the same as groups because groups require participation or well atleast it would be nice to actively post in them or contribute. The purpose of shoutbox is not to conversate back and forth, it is not Chat. It is, like mirch mentioned too, sort of like a ticker. It just highlights some, if any, important events/alerts of the day.
Example: I maybe watching something that other countless number of members would like to know about, but i will not go around sending mass-PM and flood everyone's inbox. Therefore, if there's a shoutbox (or Ticker), people can just browse through it to see the highlights of the day including domestic and world affairs.
It would serve as a message board. To prevent it from being used as a tool to carry a chit-chat (profile messages), there may be a limit of characters that one can type in a single message. So it deters tall talkers, and enforces a short and to-the-point message/alert.
So, there you have it. I'm not trying to make a case or convince anyone. I just put forth a suggestion like any member of this forum would, and i certainly appreciate the feedback. If it's not deemed such a good idea, it can/maybe scrapped. This is called Feedback forum, for that very reason.
I hope that "honestly" lists my reasons for the suggestion.
PS: Just for the record, Groups are a great add-on too!:biggthumb
